Doubting Your Relevance in the Big Picture?

Do you sometimes feel that you are just a world-filler, and that you don't really have a role in the big picture? I do! Sometimes worse than that! I would feel that I could easily slip from this world unnoticed, like an extra in a movie where anyone could just fill my part. Irrelevant. Unimportant. Such awful feeling. But as I did my gardening today, an insight hit me. Like flowers in my garden, they don't do much. They just be what they are, yet they make this world a better place for all. It was like I pulled a weed of lies in my heart, and I believe, little my contribution be, I'm making a difference in this world.

I didn't feel that way until I read your topic. It is certainly thought provoking. I actually like the term "world-filler" as it gives anonymity and prominence at the same time without being discriminatory. Very few terms can describe to entire Earth's population adequately. Yes, I am unimportant, irrelevant and probably obsolete as well. Quite a lot more derogatory terms would also apply. It is the "Whats the meaning of life?" question on a personalized basis. To use your gardening analogy, I hope my seeds produce a better, hardier generation in the future.

Thank you, sir, for making me go deeper on this thought. ! like your seed analogy. That inspires me more to strive to become a better mother to my children, and a dedicated teacher to my students so they can give better contribution in the future.

Hi ruthsm. One should not doubt one's relevance in the world. Always remember that a Big picture is composed of smaller details like you and me. I believe that we all serve our purpose here and it just depends on us how we will live it. If we will look at ourselves as small then we really are small but if we consider ourselves as part of a big picture then we can see what difference we have made. Have a nice day!

yeah I definitely do but then think smaller as well, just the different you make in the people in your life. that can mean the whole world. you don't have to be famous and be able to vocalize everything to the whole world or make world changes to be important. Just the fact you exist makes an impact.
