Dear Chavezrmc ! I am a Vet And I too have five dogs with me you really need not starve your dog after giving a shot of injection for deworming.Just feed him normally like any other day and give him the same regular feed! Just check if passed any worms in his stools after a day or two after giving the injection just to make sure that the medicine worked for him!
All the best!Thanks !

Hi Dear Chavezrmc, with out going into technicalities, all I would advise is together with the food habits there are other factors like sharing the same space where other dogs visit frequently, mixing up of your dogs with other dogs and other pets, the habits of your dog, if he is more interested in venturing out most of the time than spending his time indoors etc. may make the difference in the worm load.
As far as food habits are concerned try to avoid feeding raw non vegetarian food and be as hygienic as possible. Remember dogs use their mouth like we use our ands so there are every chances of getting contamination into their mouth cavity and their habit of self grooming is also makes them vulnerable for worms!
So in conclusion, what all I would say is keep your dog clean, groomed and give him deworming on regular basis and provide him clean and hygienic food! This will keep your beloved pet happy together with you! All the best! Thanks !

Hi Akrao,
I hope you don't mind me asking additional question, I've haven't taken my pup for her 3rd deworming. It was due Jan. 7, do you think that it would still be fine to bring the pup to the vet for her deworming shot?
Thanks a lot! :)

Hello chavezrmc,
You already found that you don't need to change anything in your dog's diet for deworming.
I saw you asked above what kind of foods to avoid so your dog won't have worms.
Worms don't come through food, unless it is contaminated. If you give your dog healthy, clean food and clean water, than you have nothing to change in his diet to keep worms away from him.

well my dog foods are mixed, human food and dog food as he is not eating if he only have dog food. I am living in a remote place and there's only one variety of dog food so nothing to choose from. Was thinking that there are human foods that cant be given to them.

You know, Chavezrmc, we live in a small town and I can't find the brands of dog food I like for my dog, Binne. That's why I order her food on-line. It's a little more expensive, but Binne deserves this.
Human food doesn't make the dog have worms. I know there's a rumor that if you give milk to your dog, he is going to have worms, but this is not true.
Dogs can become infected if they drink water from dirty ponds or if they come in contact with the feces of infected dogs. But they don't become infected with parasites if they eat human food.
If human food is healthy for your dog or not, this is another discussion.
My previous dog ate only home made food all her life. And she lived 13 years. I didn't give her human food, but I did cooked especially for her. I used to boil rice and mix it with boiled meat and raw fruits or vegetables (carrots, peppers, apples).
I didn't give her human food because it contains salt and other spices and there are some foods (like sugar, potatoes, onion, too much garlic) which would harm our dogs' digestive.

No! you don't have to. just give them their usual food. just make sure you don't bathe them within 7 days after the shot was given. because my vet told me it will lessen the absorption of the medication given.
