Preventing Red Ring of Death

I just recently got an xbox 360, and I've had no problems with it. The thing is I've been hearing all these scare stories about the "Red Ring of Death." Apparently it's not that big a deal though because you can just send it into Microsoft and they fix it for free. I don't really want to have to deal with this though, and risk losing my Xbox, so are there any ways to prevent it? Other then not playing it for longer then an hour at a time :P.

I believe it is fixed... especially in the new Xbox 360 Slim (aka: the newly designed Xbox 360).

It's not fixed but it is one hell of alot better. These bluddy things break all the time. Good for me though :)

I don't really think there's any way to prevent it from happening it's an internal problem which Microsoft having properly fixed themselves. Yeah if you send to Microsoft they will fix it but I'm not sure if this applies when the warranty is up which mine now is on mine so my worries begin to heighten.

Be sure your console does not heat a lot, clean the fans at the back like once in 2 or 3 months, do not put your console where it might not be able to have air so it won't heat up a lot, and turn off your console when you are not playing. Thats all you need to do. It's really easy. If you get RRoD, just get one of those repair kits that are available on the internet. ex.: ck3.co.uk

You could have someone do the x-clamp mod to it.
Or you can get an extra 3 fans. Take the old ones out and you can put the new ones out.
Otherwise try the following:
DO
Put the console on tiles or wood
Make sure the area is free of dust
Make sure it has plenty of space
Keep the power supply far away from the console
DONT
Use the console on a carpet esspecially a fluffy one.
Put the console on top of a stack of your electronics eg. dont place the console on a dvd player
Cover any airvents or place the console in a restricted place where there is not must extra space. The console needs to breath.
