Restless Legs

I have had this affliction for a while now. Sometimes it is worse than others. I have not seen a doctor for this. I was speaking to a friend of mine the other day. I mentioned RLS and asked her if she gets it. I got it while at work, walking and standing. This was new. She told me she has suffered from this in the past and that her doctor told her to eat bananas when it comes. He told her it is a shortage of potassium that causes this. Did you know this? Does it work? I went out and bought a bunch of bananas, I have consumed 3 in the last two days. I figure it is worth the try, I love bananas. What is your experience with this?

Hi, I have not tried with this since this is a good news for the people who are suffering from Leg Pain. Thanks for your suggestion and would advise my friends who find this problem. We would definitely try out with these.

Way more than "a couple," say the doctors. Seriously, take the potassium. Maggiepie "There is no hater like one who has greatly loved." ~ John Steinbeck, novelist, Nobel laureate (1902-1968)

According to nutritionists, you'd need to eat a boatload of bananas to get the dosage of potassium you need. Take pills. I know, not tasty. but it works. Of course, you can still eat bananas, if only to help those honking huge pills go down, & mask the flavor! well, so far, I have not had a problem. But we will see. I think it is still too soon to determine.

I started about a week ago, a banana a day and have not had a problem. I am not sure if it is more psychological, but it seems to be working!

Keep me posted, hon. I have the same problem--all my life!--& so far, the sole remedy I've found is getting up & walking around...but I get less rest than I need when I do that. And it's only temporary relief at best. Doc says I can have a pill that helps. Oh & I sooo want yet another pill to swallow. NOOOT. Sigh...life. It's gonna getcha one way or the other, y'know? I have steady supply of bananas in our diet not only because it's cheap but also loaded with nutrients . In our place we have this special specie called "SABA". It's loaded with potassium and it's use for home treatment of diseases like indigestion, and diarrhea. It's has been proven to be effective!

I've never had RLS, so I can't help much. If it's really becoming bothersome, I think I'd check with my doctor; although, I love bananas too and would eat them regardless. Let us know if it works. My Dad ate bananas all the time, because the doctor told him to because he had a potassium shortage, not because he had RLS.

I don't go along with this banana theory. First of all, if you really were so short of potassium, there would be many much more serious symptoms. Secondly, I used to eat so many bananas, as they were very cheap where I used to live, that I should have been overdosing potassium. No effects at all, neither good nor bad!

Restless Leg Syndrome is usually experienced in times of inactivity, the urge to move around, discomfort etc is alleviated by movement. The Mayo Clinic has an excellent page on the condition, symptoms and treatments. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/restless-leg-syndrome/DS00191/DSECTION=symptoms If you read these pages and find that your symptoms match in all or a large portion the ones listed, I'd suggest strongly seeing your doctor.

Oh God RLS is the worst. I have had it for about 10 years now (I am 23) and nothing can seem to cure it. I have decent-good potassium intake, and it doesn't seem to help. I may try upping it though.
