Hello mylotters.
I like listening to music, and most of the time I listen to metal. Metal is a huge genre, and I like almost all the subgenres of metal.
But there's some people, that discriminate metalheads, call them satanic, other say they're alcoholic or drug users.
Others criticize for the type of because of the clothes, they say that metalheads shouldn't wear black always.
But this isn't true, for example I'm a Christian, and I listen to metal. I wear black, but I wear other colors too. I don't use any type of drug, but there are people that still criticize.
What do you think? Should metalheads be criticized just because they appearance or their musical preferences?

I love music of any variety, from classical to metal. I find metal as the most complicated because it's not that easy performing metal. People who say metal is satanic say so based on their taste. Any kind of music from classical to metal can be satanic if the lyrics praise the devil or used in satanic worship.

Technically metal is just another genre and it depends on the song writers as to what kind of message they wanted to convey. Sad to say, some metal songs focus more on anger, or rage, violence, and everything negative and that's probably why people got the wrong idea that rock is evil.
But most of the time, it's really just a misconception. There are Christian rock and for sure it's all about praising God.

Hello ricextreme!
Me too is a Christian and I also like listening to rock songs. But I do make researches for the type of songs that I listen to especially the content of the song. So when they say that what I'm listening to is satanic then I'll give them the background and content of the song. Just be careful with the songs that you are listening to because you might be deceived.
Songs are designed by God to praise Him and rock songs are one of them but it has been corrupted that is why there are satanic songs.
My suggestion is do a background check about the band and content of the song.

Oh I think the same thing happened when rock and roll started out. Now there are Christian rock and roll bands that people love and yet they still insist heavy metal is bad. But I love it, some of my favorites are Makeshift3, flyleaf, and fireflight..

Well, there's stereo type for all kinds of music. Few examples - people who listen to country music must be "hick-villies" from axx backwards woods. All rappers are either gangsters or just got out of prison, or on their way into it. I'm sure there are other stereo types out there but I'll just stop there. I listen to a lot of different types of music & sometimes I get a funny looks when I tell people what I have on my ipod. I play poker with buddies twice a week at a small restaurant/bar. They have a small dj booth. Restaurant was very slow one night. I asked the bartender if I could hook up my ipod to the music system & he said ok. I put it on random & after a while people couldn't stop laughing at me & looked at me weird. I realized at one point, it will play classical music & next, a heavy metal would come on, then country music for a bit, then techno-club music or two, then heavy metals again etc, etc... People kept telling me I looked like metal person & they were surprised I have classical music in my ipod. Oh, well....

Today it's metal. Yesterday, it was the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Different generation, same ignorance and stupidity. There are people who believe that anything they don't like is going to pervert their kids and turn them into crazies or criminals. It's a generation thing that just keeps changing its targets. If you don't like metal, don't listen to it. But that's not the way those people think.

Yea thats just the stereotype of that genre. When you hear rap you think "gangster" when you hear country its "southerners" . But with metal its loud and most people cant comprehend the music only the weird vocals and usually the shredding guitar. And from the history of metal it seems it has a very bad reputation. Im actually in a metal band (drums) and its funny cause im pretty religious and all our songs are about parties and aliens but most people still think its just devil music even though we explain not one of our songs is about the devil.

They usual don't understand the people singing it. If anyone observe closely they'll see that its very expressive. Maybe its the type of people who sing it that cause people to think like that but they don't know that its just stereotype. The songs are usual about anger and stuff like that so i'm guessing thats why. To me I don't have a problem with the genre.

I'm not sure that's too rampant a belief these days. Of course it depends on what country you are in probably too. I mean there ARE some satanic metal bands ha ha. In American the issue is the majority of the country are "country" folks. All across the Midwest you don't have the broadband internet access of everywhere else and loads of small town minded people who know no world other than the environment they were raised in by the small town people before them. Leads to stupidity.
