Some of my friends here know that I have had my share of computer problems over the past 6 months or so. well, it got worse. I got a virus that completly ate up my hard drive so I, once again, had to send it out and put in a new hard drive. That was a month after I spilled tea on my keyboard and had to replace it. Then,,2 weeks after getting it back with the new hard drive, it started acting really flakey and had bad graphics cards among other problems. This was the end for me. I could no longer throw good money after bad into this laptop. I started to shop around and of course, what I wanted, I just couldnt afford right now. So, I decided to just go without a computer till I saved enough to buy what I want. I lasted about 1 week without it and started going crazy. I had no idea just how addicted to the internet I am till I could not use it. I was just about to put myself in debt when while at a friends house, went on line and decided to check the site Free cycle. To my delight, the second ad I clicked on was for a complete desktop system, soup to nuts but the guy wanted to give it to kids in need or to a military family with kids that could use it. I decided to email him anyway and asked him to please consider me just in case he didn't get any response to his offer. The very next day, much to my huge surprise, he emailed me and said that if I gave him my broken laptop he would give me the system. Of course I agreed and when I asked him why he was doing this for me he just said "I don't know, I liked your letter!" The man is a retired IBM engineer and built this system himself. He is throwing in a flat screen monitor that he said he has laying around. The system runs LYNX which I have never used but he says it is much faster than Vista which is what I had and that I will never have to worry about getting a virus! So, tomorrow morning I am going to pick it up and I couldnt be any happier! To get a new computer for free is so much more than I ever could have hoped for. I love that Free Cysle and can't even tell you how much stuff I have got from it. By the way, I AM NOT AFFIFLIATED WITH THE WEB SITE AND AM NOT ADVERTISING IT. Like I said. sometimes I just get lucky and things go my way. I am so grateful and will let you know how the computer is during the week...

We have Freecycle over here and lots of people love it. I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am that you have got yourself a free computer from them. That really is amazing and it's made my day, as I know you've had problems with your previous one.
Let me know how it works! I think it might be Linux instead of Lynx but I could be wrong lol.

Janey, I am with you, and pretty certain it is Linux. I just do not know what difference that is exactly. I know most people hated Vista, and my new computer came with Windows 7. I do know that some of the more savvy people prefer linux.

Lynx is a web browser (text only) that ran on older Unix/Linux systems, if I remember correctly.

You guys are all right. It is lynux..my typo. Zoey, when you say text only, what exactly does that mean? Will the internet work the same way as it does with Windows?
Thanks for your help

Wow, that's amazing! Congrats on getting a new computer for such an amazing deal. I need a new desktop myself because it was hit with a virus not long after my son was born and it kept me from getting online for months until I got my laptop mini working again. I love my mini, but I miss having a full flat screen like with my desktop. I'll have to check out the site you mentioned. And you're right. I didn't realize how much I use the internet and enjoy until I didn't have it for awhile.

I posted a few more pictures of my dog on Facebook yesterday. Do you have a Facebook page? I always said I would never have one and then I started one because everyone kept asking me to so they could see pictures of my son. I gave in. lol I sent you a message here either yesterday or today, but it might not have gone through. I'm doing ChaCha when I have time, but I don't have as much free time to do it as I would like. I do it at night once Jack goes to sleep. How are things going for you? Oh, I'll post a picture of my son. I'll let you know when I do. :) Good to talk to you again!

Oh, that is so great. On one or two occasions I have gotten just what I needed from Freecycle. They can certainly provide some crucial help at times. It must have been your time. It sounds really great and I am sure you will learn to use the linux operating system. I do not understand all of the differences, but I have heard that it is a good thing to be able to do. If an IBM guy thinks it is good, it must really be the best thing.

I got an extension on my unemployment, there just is nothing out there that I am qualified for. I have not worked hard enough to build a writing income, but that has to change. Other than that, I am great. I have even started a few discussions this week.

Hi H..I know, I am so thrilled I can't even believe my good fortune. It won 't sink in until I have it home I guess!! I'll be sure to let you all know what it is like. I'm a little nervous about the operating system but he assures me that I will be fine with it...Plus, he says he is just an email away if I have any problems! Thank the Lord that there are still some good people out there!! Thanks for the post..P.S. How's everything with you these days?

Hi Rowantree..I will definitely do that. I just got home from picking it up and I just can't get over it. Its so much more than I expected, It has a real nice flat screen monitor, brand new speakers with amp, and get this A Blu Ray DVD player!! I am just thrilled. All I have to do now is figure out how to hook it all up!! I'll probably have to get someone to help me cause I've never had a desk top before. I'll post about it when I get it going..Thanks for your well wishes and your post!

Congrats suksisels, I guess this means I'll be seeing more of you here..:) Free cycle is great, but I have never gotten anything that good.. I do remember one time someone was offering a brand new in the box bread machine. It was a gift, but they didn't have time to use it. I didn't respond because the location was a little too far away, but I am sure some person was very happy to be picked..

Hi Carm.. Yes, I will definitely be around more now and I'm so happy about it! I really miss this site as well as the internet in general! You know you can have items that are posted in your area or group emailed to you from Free cycle. That way you don't have to go to the site and you don't miss anything good you may be interested in. Thats what I do and I'm telling you, I've got so much stuff and nobody likes free better than me!!! The bread maker would have been a great thing. I have one and love it. The loaves are kind of small but its the perfect size to have with dinner. I really like the french bread and make it all the time..The cinnamon raisin is good too and so is the onion!! I think I'll make some this week now that you've put it in my head!!!

Yes I know, I am a member of two of them and have gotten some great things when they become available, but nothing like a computer.. I should have known you know about bread machines, so I might as well ask you now. I do have one, one I bought at a garage sale last year, but never had a chance to use it. Not because of time, but because from the instruction booklet, it says I have to use powered milk, something that is very expensive around here. I wonder if it is possible to make bread with milk itself if I don't let it sit over night. (which I believe is why they insist on the powder milk.)If so, can you send some recipe my way? I really want to try this machine..

hi sulsisels thats why I have not seen you lately here. I am so glad
for you wow the whole thing free well all I can say is you really
deserved it and now you got it.My son has linex and vista and he likes
both of them. I wonder by any chance is someone was giving away even just a small television as i could use one in my room. I cannot afford one as I have very small funds and my room and board here eat up most of my scocial security and SSI checks.Hope it will really work wonderfully well for you now.

Hi Hatley..There is a Freecycle in pretty much every major city in every state. If you go to the site (Freecycle.com) and sign up in your area, you can either visit the site when you want or do like I have done and have every post in my "group" or area sent to my email so that I dont miss anything good. Tv's are probably the most common thing being given away and I'm sure that once you sign up it wo n't be long to you see a post in your area for one. I have got so many nice things from there. Its all stuff that people do not want anymore for one reason or another but the item(s) are too good to throw away. I mean, look at the good fortune I just had ans like I said, its not the first time. Check it out! Also, hope this finds you doing well. Its been awhile since I've spoke to you. Hope they are treating you well there! Now that I have a great computer again, I'll be on much more often. Look forward to talking with you...Go to Freecycle asap~!

I will have to check out free recycle and see if there is something I can use. With money being so tight it is hard not having anything. It is frustrating when people can go out and spend money while I really cannot spend. I have so many things around the house that needs to be done, but I cannot afford it. My husband and I want to sell the house, but with the bad economy it is hard to sell. I am glad that you were able to find somethig for free.

Hi randylovesdar..Believe me, I know what the feeling is. I'm so sick of being broke I can't even begin to tell you. From what I read, thngs are not going to change anytime soon either..How much worse can it get? Definitely go to FreeCycle. You can set it up so that all the items that are being given away in your area come through your email so that you see everything without having to go to the site all the time. I highly recommend it. I have got so many good items from them. People throw away perfectly good things all the time. Check it out. Hang in there.J

Sounds like the law of attraction working. Too often we don't ask because we make negative assumptions. It is stories like yours that inspires and continue to give us faith that charity is still alive and well.
I am glad you met the kind soul. Reminds me of the movie "Pay it Forward!".

So funny you mentioned that movie because I've had that thought several times regarding this web site. It certainly is refreshing to know that there still are good people out there, I agree. It kind of restores my faith in humanity! Thanks for your post.

If you want your computer, not to be attacked by lame viruses, and other bad viruses, the best antivirus system is symantec endpoint protection. If some virus wants to attack your computer symantec will block it immediatelly.Don't pay money for real antivirus systems.Thepiratebay or zamumda or any other sites havve got ne,completely full proof and free!!

The man who gave me this system is an IBM engineer and he says that i never have to worry about a virus by running Lynux..I hope this is true. In any case, I get my internet through Comcast and included is free Norton security which is what I have been using on my Laptop. I've heard pro and con about Norton but free works for me!!!Thanks for the info and your post!
