It is said that Filial Piety in Chinese is a virtue above all else; A respect of parents and ancestors. It also means to be good to one's parent. To perform duties and support parents. What I want to know is...
What if your parents didn't do any good for you?
What if they abuse you? What if they abandoned you?
Can hatred be turned into love and respect just because of Filial Piety?
please let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Hi. I can only speak for myself but I guess regardless of how my parents treated me, I still don't think I'd lose respect for them even for the simple reason that I wouldn't want to commit the mistakes they've done. I mean, if I don't show them respect, how can I impart this virtue to my son? We all live different lives. And what makes it different is the manner in which we decide to live it.

Thanks Beamer88 for your response. My friend and I have been conversing with this since last week. You and I have the same perspective. However, this close friend of mine was unable to forgive and forget what he's father have done to her and therefore is in contrary in Filial Piety or respecting her father. I am not in the same shoes as she is right now reason that I asked here. Thanks.

Hi dear,
I don't know how to respond to it. My parents are God to me. Even though my father is no more now, the memory about him is the life inspiration for me. I never seen a person like him because he was such a lovable person and all we 5 children were respected him so much and he was one of the model person in our whole village. Though he didn't do anything major things to the society, he was so true to life and we liked him very much.
Even my mom also the same and she spend her whole life for us. All the parents are like that only, they will love their children. But here in my case, I found something different in them. Now you tell what relevance has Filial Piety in Chinese influence on this case?
Thank-s
