My dear mylotters, it is on the news now about a deadly computer virus now sent around. It very strong and stronger anti virus defintions can not stop it. Norton and microsoft advised that is so strong that they cannot stop it. It is sent in a form of an email. Once you open it, it will infect your conmputer instantly and shut down or crash your computer in no time. The only precaution to take while waiting for a cure is NOT to open emails that you do not know of. That means, you just have to do away with junk and spam mails and open mails only from trusted friends and business associates. I hope you all aware of this.

Thank you for the information. But how can I judge who my trusted friends are because as a member of mylot, I have to receive a lot of emails in the form of messages from my mylot friends. So it is very difficult to judge who are really trusted.

You shouldn't trust anyone. People would sell you out for a piece of bread in bad times. Just kidding :p. Seriously though, there has been times that people infected with Trojans or key loggers get their email accounts stolen and the "thief" just uses their emails to send to other people on the "victim" list. You can either have security that its hard to use or your could have a convenient easygoing system that its not secure. Such is life, if its easy for you, its easy for others. Just use your computer happily until it breaks down. Either from a virus or from physical, heat or water damage. Computers are fragile and not eternal.

Has it been given a name?
That is the problem with anti-virus suites relying a lot on virus definitions, meaning that the software have to wait for an outbreak to occur before finding a cure. A good anti-virus software should be able to anticipate possible moves by new viruses.
if you have not done so I would like to suggest that you visit www.matouse.com. It is an independent site, and tests security suites in a different way. The results may not satisfy many people. The site explains the rationale of each test. So far only one Internet Security Suites reaches the 100% mark.
Of course nothing is perfect, but I think the site gives a fairer view on what to expect.

Hi jak: I think it's impossible to stop viruses. In fact everytime they find the cure another menace grows up. I follow this advice and I usually don't have troubles with viruses. I hope people do the same. It's awful to know how hackers do these damages to people they actually don't know no matter what are their intentions. It's horrible.

I thought it was a biological virus, since you said deadly :p. But there are always new viruses around, in any given day you could get infected by dozens of new viruses or new versions of old ones. I think it was a slow day for the news, and they decide to use a little cyber drama. If you do get infected by a virus you can't eliminate, just format the hard drive and reinstall your operative system.

I use AVG for my antivirus and it works like a charm. I download alot of torrent files so im always getting one or another but to my amazement AVG stops them everytime. Try to only ope emails you trust and if you are not sure dont open it. hope this helps

Hmm...I've received no heads-up from MSE. But I think it goes without saying, you should never open e-mails you aren't sure of especially spam.
