My husband and I moved to the Florida Heartland 6 years ago. My children are old enough now that I would like to take them on inexpensive, special day trips every once in a while. We sometimes visit Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo and Monkey Joe's in Orlando. Both are about 90 minutes from our home. I was wondering if any one from the Heartland area had any other suggestions about things to do with kids in the area.

Well i have lived in Florida my entire life and have visted and done so many things in orlando. I do know Disney can be a little bit pricey at times, but there is Busch Gardens and also Seaworld you can always do and i know seaworld when you pay once you can go all year with the same ticket and you wont have to pay for the second time. Also during the summer you should try to do some water parks in the area as well as those can be very fun as well.
There is also Medivel Times (not sure if spelt right) but i went there when i was around 12 and had a blast as it is a lot fun. I also believe there is Gator Land which is alot fun there as well, its stuff to do with Alligators and kids usually like it there. I cant really think of anything else right now but i know there are dinner shows for families in orlando and so much more. Hope this helps you out and have fun.

My girls love Disney. It is pricey though. We save that for a once a year trip. The Seaworld pay for a a day play for a year pass is great. I forgot about that one. My girls are definitely old enough to enjoy that now. I definitely think we'll check into that this spring. Thanks a lot!

I know this discussion is pretty old, but I wanted to ask lologirl if she had any recommendations regarding the activities at Seaworld. I am thinking of going there and I am not sure if it would be worth to pay extra to swim with dolphins, sea lions etc.
So have you ever tried any activity like that there?

Puccagirl if you like dolphins/sea lions etc then it is worth it since this is an acitivity specific to seaworld and there isnt much else to do there.
