I dont buy a specific brand of pasta as i think they all taste the same. I usually just buy the cheapest one because i like to save my money rather then waste it. I just buy the store brand pasta and unless there is a sale or a buy one get one free deal i will buy the cheapest one still. I am a saver not a spender on money and always want the best deal. So when it comes to pasta i just buy what is the cheapest as they all cook the same and all taste the same.
When cooking with it, you should try to add in some vegetable oil or other type of oil when the water is boiling to give the pasta some flavor and then also the noodles or pasta wont be so startched.

Be careful when adding oil to pasta water. You should really only do this when you are worried about it sticking together, like when cooking lasagna. Its the salt in the water that flavors the pasta and also the only chance you get to do it. Adding salt after cooking does it no good. Use a heavy hand with the salt in the water as well. The Italion chefs always say that your water should taste like the sea! Oiling the water tends to make the sauce run off the pasta rather than sticking to it like you want. Of course, to each his own, but this is what I learned in culinary school.

Also, if you can afford it, buy fresh pasta rather than dry. You won't believe how much better it tastes and it cooks in 2 minutes! I want to buy a pasta machine this year and start experimenting with making my own. I think that the machine will pay for itself quickly and we will get the benefit of fresh! YUM!

I only buy pasta made in Italy. The pastas from other countries aren't anywhere near as good. Some are so bad, that I won't even eat them when put in front of me even though pasta is my favorite food. Yes, I'm a pasta snob.

Most pasta seems to be pretty much the same. Whole wheat pasta tends to be a little heavier and denser. The vegetable pastas seem to have some more favor. Brand name does not seem to make a difference. I recently started making pasta from scratch and fine that an enjoyable and quick activity. It takes a few minutes to make, because you have to roll it out very thin, but takes less time to cook.
