My Dental Adventure

Hi everybody! I'm so sorry to have been gone for so long! I'll explain in another discussion but for short, I was so very sick for almost a month! But I'm much better now, thank God! My dental adventure was just that, a hell of an adventure to say the least! Well a little over a year ago I went and had the rest of my bottom teeth pulled. I was so tired of the constant pain of one after another of my teeth breaking and having to go through those painful novacain shots and the pain of the tooth or teeth being fixed not to mention the cost. I went through that for a long time and finally had enough so I had them all removed on the bottom. I was told that it was best to get the implants about 3-4 months after I completely healed. I had planned on getting implants then but decided to wait out of fear of what if I didn't like them then we were out all that money. I waited a little over a year. What a big mistake! When I went in, the dentist told me that my gums had fallen over toward the inside and had to but cut out in order for the implants to fit properly. He gave me the gas as I had asked for but he didn't give me enough for I felt every bit of the novacain shots. It was extremely painful! My eyes watered up to the point that I had to have a tissue to wipe the tears away. I wasn't crying but the pain caused my eyes to water up something awful! Now he thinks I'm numb and I'm not for I'm feeling everything so he goes to numb me up some more and this time I didn't feel it as much so I could handle it. He goes to do his thing and as time wore on, the feeling started coming back and he gave me more shots to numb me but this time it wouldn't take. He gave me more and more and it just wouldn't take so he continued to do what he could. I could feel every bit of him screwing the implant into my gums and all I could do is cringe. He tried numbing me again and again, gosh I lost count as to how many times he shot me up. Finally he got all four implants in only to find one had cracked my bone so he had to take it out but the other three were ok. Then he tells me that I should be in the Guinness World Records for the hardest to get to numb up because I was the hardest he'd ever seen and not only that, my case was not the worst but next to the worst he's ever had to work with. Then he goes on to tell me that I was very brave in taking all the pain that I had taken because anyone else would'nt have been able to deal with that. I told him that I basically had to put myself in another world so I wouldn't feel the full effects because I was in a great deal of pain and he said, no doubt but you know I tried to numb you but it just wouldn't take like it should've. I have to go back to get the last one on another date. I got home and was in a great deal of pain but had pain killers to knock me out. The next day I had all that cooking to do for my mom's birthday and an early Thanksgiving which my brothers and their wives came and they paid for all the food and hubby and I were to cook it. They saw the pain that I was in and pitched right in to get it all done. It was a huge success! Then the following day I got so sick and was running a fever. Hubby called the dentist and told him what was going on and he ordered me a strong antibiotic which helped enough to get the fever plus infection to go away. At least long enough for me to heal up. Now this all happened the middle of November so now I'm all healed up and still have to get the fourth implant, I'm VERY happy with them! No more denture cream! BLA! That stuff is nasty! So no more of that and can eat anything I want without having to worry about my dentures falling out or anything getting under them. Was it worth all the hell I went through? I don't know. I guess it all depends on the person but for me, I'm just so happy that most of it is over. The one last implant shouldn't be anything near as bad as the first three. I hope not anyways.... The picture I've included, the far right side is what I got, or at least three of them anyways. I love them!

I am so sorry, that sounds really bad and here I was thinking of implants for the couple I am missing...They don't put you under? From what you shared with me, I would think they would use more than novacain, I would think they would put you under, like for surgery. Not that I am glad you went first, but I am glad to know this, I may consider it more seriously if I consider doing this..

Far Right Side - This is what I got except I have to go in and get the last one eventually
Hi carmelanirel! My picture didn't come up! ARG!! I know you've seen it but a few others haven't. I'm trying again in hopes it'll show this time. You would think they'd put one under but they don't. A few years ago, while living in Arkansas, I had two put at the top far back of my mouth and it went really well. One on each side far back in my mouth. I didn't think this would be any different. It all depends on the person in how well they take the novacain. I've always been a tough one to get to numb but didn't think it would be so painful for I felt the knife cut and the screwing of the implant and everything. You may not. You may numb easily. It just depends on the person.

I do have a low tolerance to pain, but it may be worth it if my dentist did the work. He did a couple root canals that went beautifully because he is more concerned about me being in pain than getting the job done. So I am not afraid of root canals, I just don't want them because they cost a lot..lol

You must have a dentist that knows what he's doing! I had one when I was just a kid and all through growing up that was like that. He's retired now but if I could've, I'd have gone to him which would've meant my flying home just to go to the dentist that I trusted. I was just telling another that a root canal costs $250. WITH insurance and I've had a number of them but it didn't stop my teeth from breaking. It was a constant fight to keep my teeth that I finally had to say no more because I'm so sick and tired of all the pain I had to go through. I can honestly say that I've tried to keep them but it just wasn't worth all that pain anymore.

The picture does not seem to be here. I am glad for you and for the sake of your health that this has been taken care of. I am also glad that the rest of the family stepped up to help when you were making that meal. I will be looking forward to seeing more discussions from you as you get healthier and get the other implant in.

I Got The Set On The Far Right Side - Even though they were extremely painful to get, now that I'm all healed, I love them!
Hi GG! I don't know why the picture didn't show itself! ARG!! But I did get it to post above you. That's so aggravating to see it there and when we got to post it, it doesn't show. ARG!! Yeah, it shows my brothers do have a heart. Hubby and I did appreciate their help although it was agreed upon that they'd pay for the meal and we'd cook it. They live so far away that for them to cook something and bring it down, it wouldn't have worked so that's why we made the agreement. But it all worked out. Hubby went and got a surprise cake for mom and she was right surprised and very happy! Both mom and dad were so happy just to have all of us kids there together and then to have a surprise cat on top of it really made it great!

Hi jillhill! Yes I sure did but I'm only one person, everybody is different, meaning, even though I was hard to get to numb, you may be easy. I don't like pain either and is why I gave up trying to save my teeth. It just got to the point of ENOUGH ALREADY with having to constantly have one or five fixed. It's always been like that for me and it got to be too darned expensive to keep up. A root canal costs $250. WITH insurance! I've had a number of those too and it just got to be too much so I ended it by having the rest pulled and getting dentures. I just should've listened and gotten the implants when I was told to then maybe I wouldn't have gone through what I did.

wow c ats what an awful experinece but I bet they will be like your'own teeth. I have a lot of dental work needs doing but do not have the money I think I would go for implants instead of bridges if I ever get that much money at one time. But I am so low in tolerance of pain I would want to be knocked out.oh I remember this one woman dentist who did a root canal and she gave me the standard novacain and half through it hurt so bad and she just kept on going until I was screaming and refused to give me any more. I never went back to her and the hole is still there. she was really cruel and seemed to enjoy having me hurting like that. She was vietnamese but I doubt that had anything to do with why she would not stop the hurting. Hope your fourth one goes a lot better cats and does not really hurt. take c are. hugs from hatley

Hi Hatley! Yes it was an awful awful experience. One that I doubt I'd go through had I known how it was going to be but now that it's done and they've healed, I love them! I can eat anything I want and without pain! I really don't want to get the fourth one out of fear but since it's paid for already, I'll go ahead and get it. Besides, the more the better to hold the dentures in place and higher chances of it lasting a very long time or for the rest of my life. That dentist you went to had to be a royal B! I hope you didn't pay her for that half done root canal! You shouldn't have if you did. For some reason some nationalities think the human being can with stand a lot of pain. I don't know how they figure and besides that, why put one through that kind of pain when there's stuff there to numb it? I don't get it. I think I'd have slapped her silly if I were in that chair having that done to me!! I broke my thumb one time because I went to hit a doctor but hit the side of the hospital bed instead. He promised me something and didn't follow through so I went to hit him. lol It was at a time that I realized doctors weren't any deg gone better than I was just because they have an education and that's when I started to stand my ground with them. I still stand my ground with them for I won't take any sh!t off of them! Nor should I! And neither should you! Damn these high almighty @sses! I hope you get that tooth fixed soon sweetie because it'll break open eventually and you'll lose that tooth for good. Bless your heart sweetie!! Nobody should have to experience that! You take care too and hugs to you!!

Wow that sounds so very painful! I bet you are relieved that it is done! Implants, although painful, are a lot better than having removable dentures I’m sure. They will probably feel like your own teeth once everything is healed. How unlucky that your gums would not take to the anaesthetic! You poor thing what an experience to have gone through! I will send you healing prayers...

Hi paula! I did go through hell and I came back and went down again and came back again and went down a third time and now I'm back! It's been a LONG road, the longest I've ever been on other than having surgery. I hope to never go through such hell ever again! Whew! But I'm all healed now and I love them! When I go back for the fourth one, the dentist said they're going to keep the gas on the whole time. That should do the trick IF they have it high enough but not too high that it knocks me out though. Well.... that would be ok too! LOL
