how it started

A lot of people log on to this website everyday. They have their own personal reasons for using it. Bottom line is, this website has been a part of the lives of many people. Sad thing is, only a few knows how it started. Good thing that a few months ago the movie "the social network" was released. It was a fun movie. In fact, i could say that it was one of the most inspiring movies i have watched. For what its worth, I think that the users, as they use it everyday, should at least know how it all began.

hi
to be honest i am certainly not aware of how Facebook came into existence. Yes i know FB has become so addictive that some people just cannot do it without it. Its a way to keep in touch with with close ones. Its just like mobile, without which we just cannot do. But there was a time when there were no mobiles, no FB, but people used to stay in contact thru letters-they were still happy.

true...
but what's bothering me is how people catch up with everyone these days. Sometimes you talk but not really talk at all. When you go online and see a friend who is too then you say hello and he or she says hi back then the conversation ends there. I mean is that kind of a conversation considered a conversation at all?
It is just sad how people post what they wanted to say to their wall so that everybody could see and yet when you send a personal message to them to find out more of what has been going on and they won't even bother sending a reply.
Why is it that sometimes we don't give too much attention to something that we get too easily...
I just couldn't imagine what would happen if it suddenly ends...
I even remembered when the news that facebook has stopped its operation. People were so bothered and didn't know how to react.
I just wish that we would make the most of what we have now in matters of our connection with our peers...

IF you stop and think about it...it has been around for awhile...we just didn't know itor call it that!
Remember a show in the 90's called Dougie Howser.M.D.? Every night the genious doctor would write on his computer his journal about things....it was just not online! WWW didn't exist back then like it does now. It didn't got to the entire universe like it does now. He was BLOGGING before anyone knew what blogging was!!!
Then in the late 90's, there were "social networks" only they started as "family tree connections". THey were all focused and made to unite families and keep family contact. I was "facebooking" before Facebook existed...it was a site called MyFamily.com. One person started the "wall" and created it and then was the administrator. They would send invites to all they wanted to be on the family site. If you weren't invited, you couldn't be part of it. So I did all the page/wall work and then invited my entire family to "join". (it was free back then) Some did, some didn't.
Then those that were invited and joined...they could post anything they wanted anytime they wanted to! And all that participated could see and read all the posts and respond as they chose to. ...just like facebook! Everyone posted their "bios" and dates to remember and pictures and everything facebook now has (except the games) So I was "facebooking" before Facebook was invented! I just didn't know it!
I stopped it cause first there was a big fight between my sister and sister in law and a neice joined in there flapping her jaws about something that happened before she was even born and she knew nothing about it and a huge family argument started so couple people just stopped participating. Then the site started charging $10 a month for it and I was not going to pay $10 for everyone to fight and for the few that were left. So I closed it down when that started.
I haven't seen the movie but wouldn't be surprised if something like this is how the guy got the inspiration. THing is...facebooking was done before he named it that and made it a household thing!

Wow...So i guess it could have been you or anybody that shares the same interests but just didn't have all the needed resources.
And yeah its exactly like that. They already had facebook for their university where they had the profile of each member of the house that they are in. They just wanted to do something more with it. Its basically the survey of who's hot and who's not. Then it got them thinking of why not letting other universities join in. So it started there and expanded to other states and other continents. And most of the additional features of facebook was from the idea of the people around the person responsible for it....
The idea of just wanting people to connect and be a billionaire for it is just wow...I wish that it could happen to us.

Good day my friend Dro!
I haven't heard "The Social Network" before, only from the words coming out from you. I want to know more about that that movie. It seems like a very interesting one, since you always introduce it to me. Do you have any copy of it on a DVD?

It is a must see movie my friend. It'll show you the construction of the facebook empire. Facebook has now been a huge part of living. Before buying a new phone, some would even ask if the phone can connect to facebook. The impact of it is just big.
In the Philippines, while lawmakers are still arguing if they would allow the sim cards used in cell phones be registered for safety reasons, kids who don't even have a phone has their own facebook account. I just believe that seeing how it all came together would make us appreciate more its existence...
