I am getting social security,which I am entitled to.But,we haven't had a cost
of living raise in two years because this country cannot afford it.I cannot get medical, food or housing assistance.I am a United States citizen and part american indian. However recently I was talking with a social worker that showed me on the paperwork how there is a program specifically for benefits for illegal aliens! There has been violence done by both americans and illegals. But,I cannot get a raise and cannot get benefits and criminals in jail live better then I do!
They say,but if an illegal gets arrested they have to leave the country.Yep,they get arrested and while being questioned they need an interpreter.Even if they speak english they say they don't so they can stall for more time here. Then when they get to court another interpreter. They get taken to the airport to get a flight home. And who pays for this? Our taxes do! An airplane trip! I have only been on one vacation in my whole life and they get free rides.
I knew someone that would do minor things, like breaking into the store and waiting for the police to come get him because he had no place to sleep that night. So,the illegal's....if they don't have money for a plane ticket, they get arrested for whatever and get a free plane ride, courtesy of the tax payers.Oh,but I agree they should be kicked out of the country, but there has gotta' be a better way then us paying for it while we are doing without.

dfollin,
I agree that this is not fair! I am currently having financial difficulty myself and trying to get on disability for medical reasons. I haven't been able to hold a steady job in years and now I can't work at all. I had a job over in China, but I had to leave that to come back to the state for medical treatment for a recurrence of ovarian cancer. I was lucky enough to have enough money to pay for my plane ticket to get home, but now I need to figure out how to get my treatments paid for. I know that the hospital will be billing me for the surgery that was done and it will be the same when they start the chemo.
But back to the topic...I don't know what it will take to get the cost of living raise back again. From what I understand, the raise that occurred 2 years ago after the high gas prices caused the problem. I guess they are waiting for the prices to go up to the same rate they were at that time before they offer another raise. I don't think that is fair to anyone since it isn't your fault that the prices went up and then back down again. I wouldn't want the prices to go back up to the rate they were that year anyway.
As far as the illegals go, I think that they should lock them up and make them work until they make enough money to pay for their plane ticket and then send them home. I think they need to start having chain gangs or something similar again for any criminal so that people would be forced to earn their keep. On the books, they would be "paid" minimum wage, but they might get $1 of that for personal use and the rest should be applied to their keep and/or their plane ticket home. It might not be a solution for everything, but it might help. What do you think?

daeckardt,
I totally agree about what you said with the illegals in jail..Good luck with getting the social security disability. My late
husband tried to get it for 13 months and he was so sick there were times he couldn't even stand up.After he passed away,it went to court, but they had already told him at this point he had to have a lawyer and he had hired one.The lawyer had done nothing. The judge said he should of had it the very first time he had applied. We got his back, but minus the 25% for the lazy butt lawyer.
There were other people including one of his brothers that was not as bad off as he was and they got the disability the very first time they applied. But,we can only get it till my daughter turns 18 in 4 years. Then I can apply for disability.
Good luck

I have already tried twice to get disability for a different condition that prevents me from being able to hold a steady job and been denied both times. My brother has suggested that I get a lawyer before I apply this time to make sure that I do everything right. I think if I have my brother in on all the meetings that I might have a little better chance. I have trouble with communicating things in such a way that it sounds as bad as it is. I tend to push through things that most people wouldn't even try to. I have worked two jobs at times to make ends meet and after a time I would be so worn out that I couldn't function well on either of them. Is there a reason that you haven't applied for disability yourself? Just curious.

I find it hard to believe that these people can be so insensitive! I'm sorry about your loss. I just wish there were something that could be done to improve your situation. I am at a loss to be able to help since I am limited to what I can do for myself right now. Hopefully you can get your own application going before your current benefits run out. Good luck!

You seem to have some very real arguments. I am also on SS and did get a raise this year so I don't know why you didn't. I am an american citizen. I am on SSD and it is due to severe ailments. As far as illegal aliens go they should leave the country. And America has welcomed aliens for centuries. American has been a melting pot for all its history. I live in an a low income apartment complex that over the last two years has become 75% aliens. We had a festival last Summer with foods from all countries and it was very interesting.

Every year we would get a cost of living raise.Year before last they
reported on the news and on the social security phone line, that there would be no
cost of living raise till the year 2012.
Yes,america has welcomed them,which is fine,but legally.

My son is on social security disability. His checks have not gone up but they did go down by twenty dollars last year. We called to find out why and were told that it is because the government determined that we do not pay as much for rent as other people do. We live in a mobile home that is owned by my mother-in-law so we pay lot rent. They said that we can not get that twenty dollars back unless we move and are paying more. The twenty dollars was taken out of his money without them even telling us that they were going to do that so we had our bills budgeted to include the twenty dollars that they took away. We had to cancel some of the payments and totally re-do our budget. We keep getting letters saying that costs have not increased but they must not be shopping at the same stores as I am or paying for the same gas I am because it is more expensive now than it used to be. Uncle Sam is only out for himself. If you owed him taxes he would want them yesterday but if you are getting a refund you have to wait.

With any company as big as a government there will always be someone loosing out. At least you get social security. I was told to my face that even though I am a fulltime student who doesn't live remotely close to my parents and managed to support myself on 10 hours work a week whilst paying rent and bill, I don't qualify for any assistance.
Also I technically don't exist as I am independent of my family but earning so little I was classed as dependent. I'm an 'alien' in my own freaking country. I can't even get sent back to my family as they live in the same country as me.
I work hard and pay taxes out of the tiny amount I get (money that should be buying me food) and I have classmates who have filthy rich parents, live at home AND have more than $20000 in trust funds and they get paid out more than twice what I need to live!
It should be all or nothing. Everyone gets assistance until they earn a certain amount each year then they get nothing. None of this you can but you can't cr@p.

Yeah,I know what you mean,we only get $19,000 a month for me and my daughter to live on.My rent for a room with a bath and small kitchenette is almost a thousand a month.I am paying $169 a month for storage.A company I tried working for bounced my paycheck,so I have to pay the credit union a $100 a month. What little is left goes to church offering, food, laundry, personal items, laundry, cleaning items, school supplies and clothes.
In 4 years we will no longer get it.

Lol! Type - o,$1,900 a month. And maybe if I lived somewhere else that might be enough. But,around here that is not nearly enough. And we cannot move, that cost too.
