Do you still read?

I'm not sure what's wrong but I just found a discussion where the starter was asking about a dog's shampoo but others responded differently. Then it came to my mind before going to sleep to ask. Do you still read what's the discussion all about? Or you're just looking at the subject of a discussion and answer as quickly as you can? I read what's the discussion details all about and also I read some comments not all just some and try to interact with others who commented on it. If in case I depend on the subject line asking about shampoo I might end up answering incorrectly.

True, sometimes people just can't understand the deepness of the discussions, when it happens with my own discussions i blame myself that i couldn't explain exactly what i mean. Time ago i had one discussions about eating from the fridge. I did my best to explain that i want to know if people buy something which is rare bought from them, do they eat it until it finish and after that they start cooking, or they cook every day, eat their daily meal and eat pieces of the rare for them food which is in the fridge. With 22 or so responses, i had only few which answered my question. But i don't blame them, i always try to write discussions where more people can join, usually with some questions, so even if the respond is not to the topic, people still explain what they want to and i appreciate. I don't know if people read, may be most of them take a part of the discussion post and talk about it, without thinking in general, but that's not something bad for me. Paying attention (time) for the discussions of the others is something nice and precious and even if the respond is bit far from the topic - it's o.k. for me.

Well, for some one of your nationality where English is not your first language, I find that you're quite OK. I've seen some people write where I can't really understand a single thing. And yeah, I can see that you do put in lots of effort in both starting as well as responding to discussions

Hello Sugarr! Hope everything is alright. :) I would understand it if you posted a discussion which is a bit difficult to explain and some don't get it. Sometimes, it would really depend on how people would understand the meaning of your discussion there would be a minimal possibility that they would respond differently but you will still the difference of people who really are not reading the details of a discussion. Like the one that I read, "what shampoo do you use?" it was categorized under interest of "dogs" or was it under "japanese spitz". The details was "What do use on your Japanese Spitz/dog?" then the response were for human shampoo. If someone didn't read the details and the 2nd comment didn't read the details too then just read the comments/responses on the discussion then he/she will end up with the same thing. I find it funny though because of the response of the discussion owner. I find it fine as well if its my discussion but I don't think it will be fine for all other mylotters who might read the same discussion. thanks for the response! have a nice day! :)

Normally I do read the whole chunk of the content by the person who started the discussion. Before, I used to go through the whole thread but now I seldom have time as I'm super busy but I still do that from time to time when I can find time

I also encounter the same observation as you do. I still try to read the entire discussion and wanting to be as responsive as I can. If the discussion is too long, I try to get the point before I make my comment. I need to do that because I don't want to be talking nonsense.

I felt embarrassed when I won't respond to a certain discussion in a proper manner. Of course, we never know what the starter of discussion might think of us when we are commenting nonsense, right? Especially to those who have known you here for so long. Besides, there are friendships created here and might as well have been following your discussions and comments. It is humiliating on my part to be called "nonsense"...

Right sis. If the details is too long and I'm a bit lazy to read it I would read ang get the point of the discussion or don't read at all and don't put a comment. Just to be safe rather than posting something that is out of the topic.

I think most of the time when I respond to topics I try to stay on topic. Sometimes I do go off on a tangent and then I realize that I was starting to get a little off topic and then I respond to the actual question. Sometimes I just want to talk about what came to mind and the topic reminded me of something similar. I know when someone did that on a discussion that I had posted, she came back and realized that she hadn't responded to my topic at all and added a response to that. Not that her response didn't answer the question I had asked, but then she realized that she only responded to part of the situation and didn't acknowledge what I had gone through myself. So I guess sometimes I might do both ways. I hope this answers your question.

No problem. I'm sure if you start lots of discussions, it will happen sooner or later. The person I'm thinking of did it on two or three different discussions, but she always caught it after posting an initial response and then she added to that response. Have a great day!

That is actually a good point. I think its okay if we do it that way, just go back on the topic and respond properly, there's nothing wrong with that. As I'm a newbie I haven't experienced that though but we never know I just then might experience it. Thanks for the response! :)

hello milkypink26! yes, i still read the content of the discussion before answering and not just depend on the subject line itself. Actually, sometimes i get interested by the very inviting subject line only to stop short after reading the content. It turned out that the discussion was something i have no knowledge about and what i did was logged out of the discussion and find something that i can participate into. There are people though who just jumped into what they think what's the post is all about, gone astray sometimes by the misleading subject line. I just hope that these people would find time to read it through so that they would not be posting a discussion which is beyond the scope of what they're commenting on. THanks. Happy mylotting!

Hi deriellevc! :) Very well said. It is true that some people just jump into a discussion without reading it. I hope they would the same thing as you do and others too. In that way we can all response properly to a discussion. :) Thanks for the response!

Well I do try and read everything that is post. Of course, it really does help if people do keep the initial post rather simple and down to a paragraph or two at the most. I'm not going to read a rambling manifesto that is like a miniature college term paper. And I doubt most people will. Then again, most people might not read beyond that much. I try and read like I say. However, I get a sense that some people do not read past the topic line in my topics sometimes. Not all that often but there are times where I can see some lack of reading comprehension to be had. Still that is the Internet for you I guess. I should be grateful that they actually picked my topic even if they did not really read it.

It is true that you would also feel grateful because they responded in your discussion however sometimes you might not appreciate everything at all because they've responded to your questions not quite right. If you really need an answer to your discussion and you got 3 responses and they are all wrong, you would feel bad that no one is getting your point even if your details is just one paragraph. You're right that we should try to read everything in a post to avoid providing incorrect answers. Thanks for the response! :)
