Before, it was the Cebu inmates who did the dancing. Then followed by BIR personnel, now it's the Dancing Nuns. Catholic nuns in Baguio, on Saturday took their turn to dance to the tune of Eraserheads'hit song, "Toyang" at the Baguio Cathedral. The dance was a strategic move or vocational drive to recruit new members.
There has been a decrease of those who have the desire to enter nunhood, hence, they thought of such idea and danced to get more recruits.
Hence, the idea was not just to prove to people that nuns just don't pray. They also do other stuff like dancing.

I think there is no big deal about what they are done unless it is not immoral act of like dirty dancing. I seen before in the TV also some priest somewhere in Caloocan performing dance and songs on the stage with purpose and not immoral. They are also human being that need to show their talents and cooperation. It sound strange but they have also freedom.. Ohh Is there any freedom for them to do that? Anybody answer it? see you around

Oh, I love it, this only proves that nuns are just ordinary women who had taken a vow of helping the needy. They're still women who love arts and life. Most of us think, entering the monastery will cut us off from the realities. God is the central of their life but still they are still in flesh and blood runs in their viens just like ordinary people. If given a second life, I would like to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a nun! like us, they are as normal and as human!

Now that is what I call Sister Act: Philippine edition...hahaha... One nun told me that if you pray to God, that will be good. But if you want to be heard more you have to pray and sing in His name. Maybe if you pray, sing and dance in His name, your prayeres will be answered asap. For them it is 3 times the glory you bring for His name.

I guess it's the nuns' way of reaching out to the people, and yes probably to get new recruits. We have this stereotype of nuns - serious, no fun to be with, a boring life, strict, quite difficult and scary to talk to, etc. Their dance is probably a technique to tell the people that they (nuns) are 'humans', like everybody else.

Wow, I never would have imagined nuns dancing to the tune of Toyang. Well, it's not new since we've all seen Sister Act, but this is the first in our country. It's good to hear that they are doing something to get more recruits. That's what we need these days, more servants of the Lord.

that would be quite entertaining to watch, i have seen the videos of the dancing inmates of cebu as well as the video of the waitress singing in a restaurant and they were all good. gimmicks like those were great to attract people, imagine getting millions of views on youtube.
i would be delighted to watch the video of the dancing nuns sometime.

I had a chance to be with nuns for an entire day when I was still active in the church. I was still a teenager then. The nuns live on top of a mountain and we have to hike our way up to it. It was suppose to be a retreat but it's full of dancing and singing, it full of fun which i think it's more of an outing than a retreat. The nun have their own garden where they take their vegetables and fruits for their daily needs. And as expected they are all down to earth. I realized that time that it would take a lot of courage and devotion to choose that kind of life.

Thanks for sharing the link as I found it very interesting. Good to know that they too enjoy music as it is truly good for the soul.
I am sure it is so innocent but it is also good exercise.

Reminds of the Whoopie Goldberge movie Sister act but these ladies were the real deal and the real thing. Its nice to see them having fun because i know their life centers more with helping the poor and serving God. They live a very simple lifestyle and they dont have material stuff and they live a lifestyle of abstinence and purity.

Dancing Nuns?! hahaha!!!! seems like everyone is dancing now, from inmates, to office personnels, to stewardesses, to branch managers of restaurants...maybe dancing and singing are the only two thing that the people do here to relieve stress or promote stuff or something. I'm glad that those people are optimistic despite our current situation today. True Filipinos never lose their smile even when things go wrong, that's a distinct mark.:)
