Are you responsible for you?

Everyday there a lot of drug ads on TV. The list of side effects take over half of the ad time. The next minute we see some lawyers office telling us how we can get money by joining the law suit about the same side effects we just heard in the drug ad. How did we get in this situation where the cost of medical care must pay for people who are trying to get rich by class action law suits? Are we not responsible for our own actions any longer? We would reather be considered to stupid to take care of ourselves than miss out on the gravy train of the law suit. Then we turn right around and complain about the high cost of medical care and drugs. Yes, doctors do make mistakes. Drugs do have unexpected side effects. The idea of a law suit was to be 'made whole.' That does not mean we get millions of dollars from those greedy doctors and drug companies. The missing element in this logic is where does the money come from to pay those hugh settlements? From the people who buy the products and visit the doctors. The next arguement is 'No it comes from their greedy insurance company.' So the doctor/drug costs much more so the doctor/drug company can pay hugh premiums to an insurance company who then pays out hugh settlements to a few people. Who make the most in these settlements? The lawyers! We need to step back from our desire for someone to take care of us and retake the responsibility for ourselves. * Each choice you make has risks * You are responsible for that risk - even if you sware you didn't understand the risk - How responsible are you if you didn't find out! * Accept your part in each process or procedure - the doctor or drug company didn't force you to do that procedure or that that drug. * If an error is made - ask to be 'made whole' not rich. It is about time we become people who are self-reliant not sheep to be herded with dreams of easy money.

To me, there are a lot of people looking for scapegoats for their problems. Problems that are really there own fault. Yet, they just latch onto any easy solution. As if money will really help someone who has messed up their life beyond belief. Granted, there are a lot of people who really just looking for the quickest of quick fixes. But they are really not learning anything. And you are right, about the only people who are really gaining anything from this situation is the lawyers. They are the ones who are going to get the most out of each and every situation to say the least. Lawyers tend to get their hands of everything and get a good chunk. Really they are just going to push these people along and that is a shame for sure.

We have to make the choice to be responsible for ourselves. Nobody else is going to take that responsibility for us. We should not expect it of anyone if we can't make that choice on our own.,

I absolutely agree. It's not just in medicine, either. I received a notice not long ago of a "class action" suit against HP because they included a graphic which pops up when your ink cartridge is getting low. It seems that some people were stupid enough to think that whenever the popup occurred they had to change their ink cartridge, therefor, they spent more money on ink than was necessary... and who is responsible for that? Hewlett Packard, of course. Not whoever decided that the popup could be the basis of a law suit. I will not be a party to a scam like that, and that's all it is, a scam. HP will pay up and people will get money and someone else will find something else to take someone else to court. It makes me angry. People are such money grubbers that they never stop to think about who will pay the bill in the end. They will complain when the cost of HP printers goes up, you can bet on that.

I understand your point..The thing to remember is that when we are prescribed medications we have the opportunity to talk to the pharmacist and if we ask, we will be given an insert telling us about the pros and cons of the medication. The other thing to remember is that some pharmacuetical companies will withhold information about medications if it is derogatory. So, you are right about people being responsible for their own health and making sure they have all of the information for the medications they are taking. In most cases, they just have to ask.

Its a sad world we live in now! Times have changed!!! Its more about gaining from as little work as can be put in! I find the very idea of putting a question like where can i make easy money derogatory!! You have highlighted one method!! To see an educated literate individual employing such methods is very disappointing! People who should be upstanding citizens and beacons for others to follow are becoming the weeds creeping into the very foundations of our society!! Its not just about self-reliance, its about responsibility, civic duty, moral and cultural values! Its about all those things that have become out dated!! OLD after all is GOLD!
