Is organized religion relevant today ?

This is the subject of a paper my 16 year old niece has to write for school. It got me thinking. WHy is it that fewer of us are going to church regularly these days, yet we wouldn't want to see all the churches in town close up ? Thoughts ?

Maybe because the churches are not meeting the spiritual needs of the people. There are some organized religions that are growing. Not everything is going down!
