Jerking While Sleeping!

Three nights ago, I went to my boy's place. We had a really yummy dinner. Since I just came from work, I decided to sleep in his place even for around half an hour or so. He was with me when I was sleeping. When I felt that I was already dreaming, I suddenly heard him giggling so I woke up and asked him why. He burst into laughter and told me my left leg jerked really hard when I was asleep. And he kept teasing me about that --- until now!
Have you ever experienced jerking just when you fell asleep? Did someone see you jerk and laughed at you?

Jerking while sleeping is normal. If I remember correctly, It happens when you're about to fall asleep, or you're about to sink into deep sleep. I think it's because your brain is still checking if you're still awake or not. If you're still alive or not.
It's normal, usually, accompanied by dreams. Since you're still a little conscious about your surroundings, you tend to act out what's happening in your dream, but since your brain is also aware that you're asleep, or that you're dreaming, tries to stop what you're doing. That's why it's just jerk instead of the full-blown act

hi there.
well i have experienced that for several times already. and yes i usually wake up whenever that happens. i do not have any idea why that happens though. my girlfriend has seen me do that while i sleep, but it's quite normal for her too. because she has experienced that too a few times. so she did not react from it.

I just searched about it. It says it's called "Hynotic Jerk" or some kind of like that...the body suddenly relaxes, and the stimulus in the brain misinterprets it and it send a "falling" sensation to the body and tells the arms or legs to jerk. That's how I understand it. But the article also says it's normal, so I guess we don't have to worry hahaha!

Jerking while asleep in normal. I sometimes dream of falling and suddenly I will be awaken because of my jerk. I laughed at myself when this things happen and yes my husband usually laughs at me when something like this happens.

I also experienced the same! Did your husband jerk on his sleep too?

It has happened to me a few times before. Mostly when I'm really tired, though. I remember having dreams of falling from a very high place, and I'd jerk myself back to consciousness.
Much like Inception's kick, don't you think?

I think so hahaha.
And yeah, I also experienced dreaming of falling from a high place --- usually from a staircase or a building.

The only jerking I can think of is when I get something similar to a charlie horse but it's not painful. I have never thought about why it occurs. But I have read other posts that sound like they have better explainations than I.

I've done that, but I've usually woken up directly afterward. I'll be kicking something in a dream and WHAM! suddenly I'm awake and kicking the bedpost (ow). Don't know that I've seen anybody else kicking out random limbs when asleep. Though I have heard someone talk in their sleep and it was pretty funny.
