do you smile or acknowledge a smile or hello given to you by a stranger?

This always happens to me. I meet a person along my way to work and I don’t know her or him. Yet, he would smile at me and say Hi or Hello. So, what can I do but also smile and say Hello too!

Smiling back has always been a safe response for me. But in really awkward moments, I find myself just nodding back. LOL =]

I think that it's a way of the Japanese to greet a person. Would you believe that when i was a teenager, some Japanese tourisr would ask if i have a Japanese blood too? Maybe because i nod when i greet or maybe because as they say i look Japanese.

For me a person who smiles a lot has a happy disposition too. She will not get older that fast .

Welcome my friend, you deserve it. I had to check on all my unresolved responses, and found out that i have a lot more.

Of course. A smile costs nothing and makes the world a much nicer place.

If you smile at everyone you meet or pass on the street I think that you'll find nine times out of ten the smile is returned :-)

Sure I do. Responding back isn't hard to do. When I was working overseas many Kabayans there or even me are like that to our fellows. When we meet somewhere down the road we were exchanging greetings as if we've known eachother for years.

Sometimes a smile could connect you to where you came from , as in your case to some fellow Filipinos. It also serves as a reassurance that you are not alone in that foreign country.

That's right. When I see our fellows on the road, I always wear a smile and utter the famous word of Kabayan. Surely they will respond to it with smiles on their faces. Have a nice day!

It's nice to always have a ready smile to everybody. Smile is contagious and most people would smile back also, even if you are not an acquaintance at all. So, let's always have a smiling face. It brings sunshine to everybody we flash it to.

I have also such experiences, how can we understand he is good or bad i often neglect them without smiling and say hello.

Even if they are good or bad, what is important is you have smiled at them. Who knows, if he is bad and once you smile at him, he will cringe with shame for being bad?

I've lived and worked in Asia. And I understand how the concept of smiling at strangers is a not a common thing. Usually, people are shy and a bit reserved. But once in a while, you do find a few that are really outgoing and deserve a smile or hello. Out here in the west, saying hello or smiling are second nature to people. Maybe you're just too beautiful for people not to say hi or smile too!

I guess, that's the magnet of a smile thrown at you. . .you smile back when smiled at. Sometimes though, i would smile as we pass by each other, but would glance back to recall, if ever she/he is somebody i do really know.

I smile! I smile! I just can't help it! I guess because smiling is really contagious and also I believe it's rude not to smile back. :)
