It's something I've been wondering for a while now. Do any of you set up a word count goal for 2011? Is there a number of words you want to writing this year? Me, I set up a goal of writing 100 000 words by the end of the year. I'm counting all my fiction work and my non-fiction articles. I don't count my thesis or mylot... What about you?

Hi Calajane, I have never paid attention to the total word count, until I joined Infobarrel. One of the achievement bars is the Wordsmith badges for achieving a certain number of total word count. I think you can consider joining Infobarrel and submit the non-fiction works if you are writing online. It is a source of motivation to see you have reached the goal of getting a certain badge for the word count.

Well for me the word count goal is rather a personal challenge for myself, something to motivate me to be creative and write more. But having a badge is definitely a good motivator

Technically, I have my thesis that I need to write... But I still try to find time to write. Maybe you could too? Say 100 words a day? It's not that much...

Wow, a word count goal. This is the first time that I heard something like this. I love to write and I usually write everyday, but I never gave much thought as to how many words I have written over the past few years. Interesting!!

You goal seems just about right to me. At work, I have to reach a quota of 3,000 words/day, though I'm generally way higher than this - at around 10,000. So I figured that I could do about 10% of that for my own private projects, which would be 1,000 words/day, which amounts to 365,000 for the year. Nice number, but I forgot that I don't go to work every day, and my weekends are already full tutoring and spending time with family and friends, so I should take those out from my calculations. I also forgot that most of my projects are in English, so it's way more difficult for me to write than at work. I also forgot that I pay more attention to these projects, since they involve a bit of creativity - what I do in the office is closer to documentary articles. And now I'm behind schedule, of course, and it's only February. Go me. I like your target though, seems closer to reality than mine, and I like it's a round number for the year.

Well it's been my wordcount goal for the last two years, but I haven't been able to meet it yet. I hope that this year, since I'm doing a lot more writing and I have a lot planned I will be able to do it. And it's going well, I have 15% already written. \o/

I've never thought of doing something like that. My goal is to write a complete Harry potter fanfiction, by this time next year, for which I want a minimum of 100,000. Today, for the first time, I also tracked my mylot activity, including word count. I've been averaging 175 words per respnonse, and today I've written just over 4000 words. My goal for the end of this month is to have hit 500 posts (though I don't know how likely that is) or 40,000 words. We'll see how it goes!
