When you cook pasta, do you make your own pasta sauce? For example, do you smuch the tomatoes and make the homemade red sauce?
I usually just buy the red sauce at the store because they are usually pretty good. I like Bertolli or Classical the best, Newman's is okay. What about you?

We normally just buy them off the shelf of the supermarkets. I remembered once though when my uncle & cousins came over from Switzerland. They made the sauce & all the herbs & stuff as coincidentally my birthday just happened to fall on the day that they were still around

Although many times I also add a small can of italian sauce to my sauce, in a great measure I make it. I like it with fried dices onions, garlixc, bay leaves from my own tree, ground meat many times, a bit of bacon and real tomatoes.

No I usually if I am making spaghetti, I will buy the can of sauce that is 99 cents in the Hunt's can. Or if I am making goolash I will just add a can of tomato sauce and ketchup and chop up some green peppers, jalapenos, and onions.

In the summer I make my own because my parents grow tomatoes. In winter I tend to make non-tomato-based sauces, because that is what I ate when I lived in Italy (usually an oil-based sauce, sometimes a cream-based sauce). I don't like all the additives and chemicals in the premade sauces and sometimes have a bad reaction to them. Plus after eating the fresh stuff you can really taste the chemicals in the premade sauces.

Really? I think I'm gonna try to make my own sauce this summer after I grow the tomatoes.

I make my own pasta sauce because I grow (or try to!) enough tomatoes for sauce every year. I can it, then make sauce from it for pasta, pizza or whatever. For pasta sauce I add garlic, onions, oregano and sometimes caraway seed and sometimes mushrooms.

Really? Let me try that then, I never add cream cheese into the sauce but it sounds good!

I buy my pasta sauce already made. It's too expensive to purchase the tomatoes. I love making my own salsa but it's so much cheaper to buy it pre made. I like the home cooked flavor but there are some things that are just too expensive to make yourself.

I prefer the quickies even though I could make them, it's just more convenient to get the made one already for the pasta.

Yes, I do. I simply haven't found a ready made one that I like as much as my own, so it's mostly because of that.

I used to use the bought sauce all the time, usually Hunt's 4 Cheeses .... but lately I've been skipping that and instead, making my own simple auce by sauting onions and cherry tomatoes in olive oil, with some basil and oregano. Its fresh and tasty, and quick too ! You can add any other veg's you have on heand .. like mushrooms or peppers. You can also add some cream or some chicken broth to this if you like ... bon apetit !
