What does it mean when someone says they work in operations for a logistics Co.?

It seems operations is the main effect that the company delivers e.g. moving goods or delivering services and taking care of cash flow - as different from e.g. support (e.g. IT, HR etc )
If a logistics company makes money by acquiring, storing and delivering goods or even services, then operations for the logistics company would entail managing shipments, effecting cargo movement, and making sure the cashflows are keeping the company alive. That is what I think ...
