Philippines

Have you guys heard the news that this Mayor wants to charge parking fees to all residents who are parking their cars in front of their houses...? What a f@ck!!! I mean its a residential area NOT a service road! In our barangay many of us here doesn't have a garage and we all park our cars in front of our houses... Take note that this is a residential area. And also the money to be collected will not go to the barangay but to city hall... The cars will not be monitored as well, no additional security to be implemented just parking fee!!! They don't have liabilities in case something happpened to the car... What is this Another way of corruption! Wanting to just get and collect with no responsibility!!! YOU (AUTHOR OF THIS CRAZY THING, you know who you are) don't run out of ideas in terms of adding head ache to the people. That should not be implemented, according to our kagawad, a memo has been given to them already however they filed an appeal, they are just waiting for the result. I mean you have barrels that goes to your pocket already, what??? want to add more???? Greedy! No cars or vehicles go in and out of our barangay except us residents here... NOT A SERVICE ROAD!

I have nothing against those that would like to charge parking fees if the road is owned by the government and not by the subdivision. This would discourage people from using public roads as if it's their own, if they really want to park then they have to pay. But i think it's too much if its a private subdivision and road is owned by the developer. If residents have to pay, the proceeds should go to the subdivision and more services should be provided. On the other hand, subdivisions who allows their private roads to be used by public transportations may charge a fee for maintenance of the road.

@ybong: All roads are owned by the government. At the end of a development project, developers are mandated by law to turn over ownership of roads to the government. That is why the government has the right to make rules on the use of roads, be it in a subdivision or not.

Yeah agree IF not in residential areas... Those illegal parking which are causing traffic and all... Like I said the money which will be collected from the parking fees will go straight to manila city hall or should i say, straight to the pocket of corrupt politicians... This explain why Philippines is like this... We are being ruled by corrupt people who are only concern with their pockets.

Well if that's the case then lovelyn can't complain if their city official requires them to pay if the park on the streets. They just have to wait for 2 more years until the next elections so they can replace their leader.

I recently had some discussion with a colleague of mine that's somewhat similar to that. In his case, their mayor told the residents of their subdivision that the road outside of their house is public property and thus they can't use it as their personal parking space. They can park their car but only for about 2 hours I think. Longer than that and their cars will be towed. I'm not sure about the legalities of it but I don't think roads inside a subdivision are considered public. They're owned by the developer. That's why there are sometimes homeowners association fees that you pay. Like you, I'm getting fed up with how public officials are trying to squeeze more money from an already tax-burdened citizenry, and that would probably only find its way to their own pockets.

the money they are using to construct roads are from us tax payers and by this look they are like owning everything... imagine parking fee for residential areas... And yes that parking fee is for day park only, we need to secure night permit or else they will still tow our cars even if we are paying that parking fee! And how would they do that? They said towing will be done at night... what they will enter in our subdivision gate at night which is already closed to tow our cars??? @^&*%^$!!!

@beamer: Developers are required to turn over to the government all roads constructed inside a subdivision. Thus, the government can make rules on the use of it. Roads are public property unless it is inside a private property, say a mansion.

Hi Lovelyn, take it easy. Over here in Singapore, the government charges for monthly parking too. If anyone dares to park without coupon or monthly parking stamp, then he will have to pay a fine. That is why we call our country a Fine Country, due to the various means of collecting fines from people.

At least in Singapore, you know where the money goes... You can see that in your country. But here in the Philippines only those who are sitting or in the position benefit from those fees...

I beg to disagree with you. The road, even if it is a residential area do not belong to the residents. It is public property and thus, the government, by law, can charge parking fees for it. That is why when a developer divests of its ownership of the developed area, roads are donated to the government. Owning a car comes with a responsibility. It is not the government's responsibility to give you a garage. If you buy a condominium unit, you also buy a parking space. So if you have a house, it is your responsibility to set aside a place for a garage. Sorry, but your anger is misplaced.

Politicians are really being unreasonable and mean! As in mean to the highest level. Well, I have to agree w/ you that, it should not be the case since you are situated in a residential area. I think yes too, that they are trying to make more money out of what they are getting. You see, politics is a quick-rich scheme. And many are doing that.

Yeah right they suck! They are making our lives more miserable... Imagine how high the gas is now... and how hard to earn money and everything are going up except for our paycheck... Then here is he, add another monthly expense on us... Agree! Most of them are unreasonable, mean, very greedy and corrupt.

Hi we have to pay in my city to park on the street. However the price is very cheap and yearly as opposed to monthly. Its only about $25 per a year for a pass. We can also purchase a visitor's pass. I also grumble about it. I think its silly. Most of the time you only get tickets when neighbours call on you. We had one parking spot out back on our property. I parked there and my stepdad parked out front.

HI Lovelyn.... nice to meet you after months. I think it's not the legal way to collect money. If you have made a garage and keep your own vehicle on your self custody, then who are they to collect money from you? All of you should raise your voice for this system. Here we give a fee in railway parking because we leave our vehicle on railway's custody.. so we have to pay for it but its too less and we have no problem against it. Have a nice day.
