When did your kids start recognizing colors?

My boy is 2 years old and 4 months. I have been trying to teach him the basic colors but he does not seem to get it, or he is just not interested. I have always been surprised how easily he can recognize cars that look like his grandmas or mine even though they have a completely different color. My question is therefore also can a child be colorblind on all colors?

I think my kids started to learn the basic colors in between 2 and 3 years of age. My middle one though I didn't think she knew hers because every time I tried to do it with her she said the wrong color. She did the same thing with counting and everything. Turns out she just didn't want me to know for some reason. I'd hear her playing with her sister and she was doing all the things that I tried to get her to do.

At 2 years 4 months I wouldn't worry. If at 4 and 5 he is still having issues with it then there may be cause to look in to it, but not now. It's a bit like worrying about when you child learns to walk...when they learn to say certain words, etc. There are all kinds of books out there on baby development and the problem they all have is that babies never read them. No two babies are the same. Every one develops at their own pace and in different areas. I had one daughter who could literally run when she was 8 months old but her sister didn't walk until she was over a year old.
So stop worrying and just enjoy this time....more complicated stuff will come soon enough.
