http://www.wyff4.com/irresistible/26631799/detail.html Several days back our most favorite fish did a discussion on cats that murder birds in his garden. Shortly thereafter I ran across this story of a lady in Wellington, New Zealand, whose pedigreed cat...a Siamese-Bengal cross...named Buddy disappeared from her home. He was nowhere to be found. Two days later Buddy shows back up at home minus his two most prized possessions. It appears that whoever took him had him fixed & then sent him back home. Buddy's owner had planned on putting him up for stud; but those plans are gone with the wind!!! Much like Buddy's owner, I cannot imagine WHY anyone would want to kidnap a cat just to have him fixed!!! What are your thoughts on Buddy's predicament???

My guess is that Buddy had got himself a tad too close to Biddy and now they are expecting little kitties! Biddy's owner wasn't havening any mutt of a cat impregnate her darling so off they came!!

First, the lady should have been more careful but I realize how hard it is to keep a cat confined if he's allowed out of the house. Second, whoever found Buddy had no right to do that to him without first making an honest effort to find the owner and return him. I think the person was probably misguided and thought that they were saving several generations of kittens and mothers the misery of homelessness and starvation. But they had no right to do that until they were sure it was a stray.

My understanding from the actual news report was that Buddy was kept in the house & he was taken from the house, fixed & returned. When I went back & read the link, it doesn't actually say that. However, the fact that he was returned leads me to believe whoever took Buddy knew where he lived & knew he wasn't a stray. I'm thinking maybe a disgruntled ex-partner out for revenge!!!

I have no clue as to why someone would do that when it is not their own animal. I do have an idea as to why though. Maybe someone is trying to help control the pet population end they thought by fixing the cat, that would control the cat from having stray babies. That is just a thought.

What really floored me was that she kept the cat in her house & whoever it was let themselves into her home & took the cat. It wasn't like it was a stray running around impregnating every female walking down the street. I hope they do a followup on this or somebody from New Zealand (or maybe even Australia) will pass along the end of this story. I'm thinking that maybe a lover she had ticked off might have let themselves in & took the cat in order to have it fixed so she couldn't make anything off of stud fees. To me, it's a scary thought that somebody would just let themselves into her house, take the cat, have it fixed & return it. The male cats I've had fixed took more than 2 days to schedule, have it done & recover. She didn't notice until he rolled over to have his tummy scratched. I just really want to hear the end of this story as it really bothers me!!!!

That's is sad and funny. I have a run of the mill orange tom cat. He had many neighbors feeding him that we didn't know about. I thought everyone knew he was my cat. Wasn't the case. Over the years we found out that at least 5 different houses in a 4 block radius was feeding my cat on a regular basics. Okay, could understand that but what was the most shocking is the neighbors that live right next door and have seen me interact with this cat, well they not only fed him, let him in their house they also tried to declaw him, on their own, just ended up trimming his nails. They speak spanish, I don't, but my husband does--so he explained to them who the cat belongs to. It took a few more weeks, before they finally quit feeding him. A few more years for the cat to quit visiting them on a regular basis. (the cat got old and doesn't travel as much)

Hehe... I donĀ“t know. My kitty kills birds on our garden. I have had five cats in my life, and my "Margalo" is the one that murders birds. It DO hurts me, because I love animals. I value life, and what she does, really hurts me deeply. And she spreads feathers all the garage long. I do love my cat. You can read my posts. But it is sad her natural instinct behavior. If I love her so... and if someone could really fix her, I would "send" her to "school" to get fixed... lol ... Blessings!... Dainy

Whoever did it, may have thought Buddy was a stray and thought they were doing a favor to the community. Stray cats can be problematic, they do their duty in the garden and sandboxes of children and carry disease that can be passed on to humans. People should keep an eye on their pets and not let them roam. She is lucky Buddy was taken by a friend and not a cat hater. There are people who hate cats with a purple passion and would do great harm to them.

He was taken from inside the home & returned home; so it doesn't sound like they thought he was a stray!!! But, YES she is lucky they didn't harm him in the process!!! Being a cat LOVER, I can't even conceive hating cats!!!!
