Hello there guys. I recently got a VISA Credit Card / Debit Card aside from my existing EON Card from Union Bank. I would like to purchase a cellphone online because I really need to get a new cellphone for myself.
What are the sites here in the Philippines where I can purchase a brand new mobile phone that will be delivered to my home address? what are the sites I can visit that do online purchase using a Credit Card. Is it really safe? will they not give out my card details? what are the detailed things that they were asking for payment using the card? these are the things that I have in mind. please add up something if you knew one. I know those sites are asking for the:
1. Card number
2. Security code (last 3 digits at the back of the card)
3. Expiration date
4. First and Last name on the card
5. Billing address
6. Zip Code
7. The amount that would be debited from the card.
aside from these things, what are the other things that they were all asking?
Thank you guys. I don't have time to go to a shopping mall to purchase one and I want to experience also a high tech way of purchasing. Thank you for all your answers in advance.

I dont think there's a lot of internet stores in Philippines selling cellphones and then deliver it through courier/mails. One reason is that there are cellphone stores everywhere you go, even in the smallest malls. Also most online stores here dont deliver your purchase. Instead, you pay them online and then you pick them up from their nearest store.
But I wish you luck finding one. If ever there is an online store that delivers...My advice is do not use the postal service here but instead use Fedex or any of the private courier services. Anything of value delivered through Philpost here have only 40%-50% of arriving to its destination. PNoy should really clean up PhilPost because it is as rotten as the plunger generals now hugging headlines.

Hi dear,
From my experience, I have made some shopping through ebay, which I found more comfortable for me. How I did - I found a product which I needed. I checked the product details from the manufactures company profile and convinced the quality of the product. I compared the prices also from the same. As the ebay price was comparatively less, I opted the product and completed the sale deed. Once I did it, there is payment options. I opted for on-line transfer. When I competed the purchase section, I got the details like address, mobile number etc from the ebay seller. I called up them and as per my and their choice I confirmed the bank account details. They insisted me to do the bank transfer from my account to their account. Thereafter I transferred the money to their account and I called them to confirm. They got convinced of my payment and on the next day I got the product via courier.
Now in your case, you can use the credit card or online transfer also. Once you completed the purchasing process form the ebay or whatever place, you will get the sellers details. Call them up and ask how you can give the payment. So, as per their instruction, you can go for it. But I got a suggestion for you, as it is a matter of mobile phone, go to any of the outlet find out which one you like and get it convince the mobile is good in shape and working properly and get do the payment to the shop and get the product at your hand readily. Once you purchase the mobile online, and something happens after 3 months, to get the warranty or guarantee issues, you will have to spend a lot of time and effort. But if you already have a shop or outlet or mall nearby, go alongwith the bill, you can get it done immediately. So, I recommend you not to buy the mobile from online and go to any of the nearby shop and get it on the spot by checking all the features, model, budget etc, which fits you. Again, once the product come in your hand and if you don't like it, you have not other option other than using it.
For me, if I don't personally like the mobile, I will not buy or use the same. I selected the mobile out of 100 pieces and my hand set is Sony Erickson Satio. Which is the one you are going to buy? Any way, the choice and decision is yours, I just informed, that is all.
Have a nice day and best regards,
Thank-s

hello dear! why do I still have to call up e-bay? what are the things that they are asking there? I thought they will just have to have their own order page wherein I will just have to enter my card details then it will just be delivered to me. Anyway, thank you for the effort.

If you don't trust sites, you can always pay with Paypal. This way you'll never give any credit card number to anyone except Paypal. But serious online shopping sites do have a Privacy Policy and the majority have special servers that handle the information on your Credit Card through an encrypted database, so no one can trace or find your personal information (except the banks that make the money transfer).
Just look around the website you want to make your purchase for Terms & Policy, you'll find the information you need there.

Well, it is generally safe now to make online purchases using your credit card or your EON debit card. But, you can never be sure. So, I suggest doing your research before purchasing anything though.

I think that it is safe to use your credit card online. I have tried before especially Eon card which is a debit card. Try to search in sulit.com for celphones for sale.

I believe purchasing goods with credit cards online is safe. The thing you have to be wary about is our country's postal system. It's just hard to trust them with high-value products. Every government branch here, save for an honest few, are filled with corruption.

I do not know which sites would be best for you, the only 2 that i know of are amazon and ebay. I have only ever used ebay once and there were never any problems. I did however though use a cheque to pay for my item. Other methods of payment could be with a credit card, debit card, or even paypal. I would look online and see what you can find, i think it would be far safer to transfer money from your bank to your paypal account and then pay for the phone through paypal. That way you are not having to give so many details online, which i would not trust. If they don't accept paypal then i think it is a risk, only you can decide if you want to take that risk.

I regularly use my visa debit card on-line,and on a lot of sites I must give them all info(like Card number,Expiration date,3 digit code etc.) with the VbV password to finish processing the transaction. As yet,I've not had a problem(knock on wood).
I guess maybe there are several types of retail chains where you could buy on-line the products on their sites.Just make sure you are on a website that you trust, and you can see the security encryption icon for the site. It’s usually at the top of your web browser and looks like a padlock.Move your cursor over it and it should indicate that the site is secure. If you don’t have that, then it may be a phisher site trying to steal your card info.

Hi aaron,
The details that you have numbered regarding the credit card and address etc. are the ones that are needed to complete the transaction. I often use my credit card to purchase things online and have never faced any problem even once. All you need to make sure is that the sites are reputable and that these sites offer security while shopping. You can easily make out which sites are secure and which are not. The sites offering secure shopping will invariably have a URL that starts with HTTPS:// intstead of only HTTP://. There will also be a LOCK icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Check for these two things when you shop online. Also ebay and amazon are the best and most reputed sites for online shopping.
One more important thing, when you do shopping online, NEVER EVER do it on a public computer in an internet cafe. Do it only at your home. If you use a laptop, never do it in public where free wifi is available. These are the places where there are maximum chances of your account and credit card etails getting hacked.
Once you make sure of these things, then there is no need to worry about anything. Happy Shopping!
