I have a degree in Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. I was originally a Psychology student but I didn't pursue it because it's not really what I want. it's my father who wanted me to get Psychology but being on it just didn't work out. It's affecting my grades because I didn't feel like studying at all. My interest was just not there so I shifted. I am happy with my degree right now it's just that I'm having a hard time looking for a job that fits with what I have. Sometimes, I think I never should have shifted because a lot of opportunities for Psychology graduates these days.
What about you? Are you have with the degree you got? or the degree you're currently pursuing?

Hi! I have some high school batch mates who have the same degree like yours, and all of them where flight attendants and they are happy with it. For me, the degree I have right now is not my decision, I only pursue this because its my grandmother's wish for me, i have lots of difficulties while i was studying back then but still i succeed and now still looking for the opportunities that might as well bump me and give the satisfaction of financial issues.= I am just enjoying what i have right now, although there are flaws but prayers will help me, i believe. =D

Well as far as I know, everyone can be an FA as long as they've attended 2 years in college. No offense to the FA's but it really makes me sad that most people think that the only job suitable for the IS graduates is being an FA. Misconception. I mean, there's more than an IS grad could offer. Besides, in IS, we discussed ideas, theories and stuffs. We never/seldom talked about the things FA's would do. We were trained to be with dignitaries, discuss with them, make plans with them, those kind of stuffs. Way too different from what FA's do.
Anyway, well it seems that you are still happy with the degree you are taking right now even if it's your grandma's wish for you. What is important is that you are happy with it. In my case, when I took pscyhology, it was my dad's decision and I was not happy with it so I pursued IS.

Well then thank you for correcting my misconception,I am not so familiar with International Studies. I also didn't know that FA only needs 2 yrs in college.
On my part also, i pursued it because i don't have any choice, we don't have enough resources so i just grabbed the opportunity. But if given the chance to rewind everything,I'd like to be a Military..

No that is why I am going to school. I have an international degree from Canterbury University a Bachelors of Art in Cognitive Studies and nobody around here would hire me with that degree. I am now attending Ashford University where I am majoring in Health Care Administration with a concentration in medical billing and coding. Everyone wants to hire people in psychology that have at least a masters degree and they completely ignore someone who has a smaller degree.

Let me add that I live in a smaller city and don't have money to relocate so that greatly affects my work choices.

I am having degree in field which i was always like to be. So I am happy with my current status. I always want to go in computer field and now i am a software engineer. Well as psychology wasn't your liking subject you were not able to get good marks. So i guess shifting is a good choice.. Thats what i think.

I am happy for you, too! :) Nice degree and really interesting! :) And yeah, I'm glad I left psychology. Id rather be unemployed because no job opportunity on the field I chose than being unemployed because I have failing marks. :)

I graduated with the degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing. At present, I am very much happy with my degree because this was what I wanted from the start. Since there has been a proliferation of nurses in my country, I have a hard time finding a nursing job. However, I am still hopeful that someday I will be able to land a job related to my profession.

I too received a degree in international studies and realized soon after that i would have to get another degree. I went to law school and got a JD and then went on to get my MBA and I am currently pursuing a Masters in Health Care Administration. I am happy with the degrees that I have pursued but I wish that I would have talked to someone about how to use them all effectively. Don't be too hard on yourself. Take some time to list the skills you have acquired from International Studies (a second or third language, global economies, etc) and think outside the box as to how those skills can be utilized; check your local not for profit organizations, look at interpretive services for organizations, etc. Also take the time while you are a student and can get student rates, to join organizations where you will be able to network.

Thank's for the advice. I'm planning to go to law school this coming school year. So I hope I could pass the entrance exam. And yeah, I'll definitely find ways to utilize the skills that I got from my IS degree. :)

Actually I'm a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I'm already a registered nurse but unfortunately I'm still not yet happy. Even though sometimes I may find it interesting but my interest is still in music. I want to learn more about music. I love singing and I do compose songs. I want to pursue and study music hopefully soon when I have the money.

I'm happy with my degree, but it never got me a job. In this economy, degrees are not the guarantee for the job anymore. Also, I've heard that the average person changes their degree 4 times! You should pursue what you want in life... you know yourself better than anyone, even your parents. Good luck.

Yeah, that's why I left Psychology and pursue IS. It just so sad to think that there ain't much job opportunities on the field I chose. But, I'm still hopeful to land a job in which I can utilize the skills I got from it. :)

I had no choice. I started pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Accountancy but I didn't take my course seriously then. I spent more time with my friends. Well, I found out too late about it. So I had to shift since they kicked me from the program for failing to meet the required Grade Point Average. So I instead graduated with a degree in Philosophy and it isn't a degree with a lot of work options. Am I happy? Not really. But I'm just glad that I still got a degree.

Well you can still go and study and have a second degree you know. And besides it doesn't matter what the degree is sooner or later you will find the job you desire and you will stick to it.Bachelor arts is really an interesting degree which can enable you to find a job with a huge salary but you have to keep searching a lot in order to find it.

hi dadindine,
it looks like it bothers you alot to take up the psychology studies. It makes alot of sense to choose a studies which provide brighter job apportunities than a job that you like but have limited job for you.
These days, I only believed in passion at what you do. Passion at your work will only brings more joy and positive results in your career.
I have to say this is what I have choose after the degree I didnt even study.

I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Special Education with my certification in Speech Pathology. I did that job for a while and I could honestly say that I was happy with my degree...but now, 11 yrs later, I don't want to do that anymore. I don't like the politics involved in the education system because it takes away time from actually helping the kids. I LOVE helping people, especially disabled kids, but I just don't know if this degree is truly the one for me anymore.

Yeah it really sucks when politics starts to get involved but it's inevitable. You got one of the nicest jobs and you really are making this world a better place by helping the kids. You know not many would want to choose the career you have and I salute you for that! :)

The degree is just a paper, a start. It should not define what you like to do. If it so happens to be the same, congratulations. But do not get hung up by what the degree is. You should not be constrained by it. In fact, the reason to get a degree is to liberate you.
Regardless of who made you take the degree, you always have the option to pursue others that may interest you in later years.
Don't let the paper burden you.
