tend to lower your rating/star number.
I think that when it comes to religion- there will always be someone who will dislike what you say... if you speak about Judaism in a positive manner, non Jews will dislike it (and rate you -), if you'll discuss about Christianity in a positive way- non Christian will dislike it (and rate you -) and if you'll discuss about Islam in a positive way- non Muslims will dislike it. Lol.
Of course, if you discuss about any of the above in a negative way... the number of people who will hate your guts will be even higher.
Seems like it's really difficult for Atheists/Agnostics over here...

This is why I tend to avoid religious discussions, as well as discussions about Politics. People get pissed off because they disagree with you, and they rate you negatively for no reason, even when it is obvious that what you are saying is true whether they like it or not...

Religion is a sensitive issue that often provoke anger and misunderstanding among people of multi religious beliefs. I think we should be able to talk about sensitive issues with maturity and with great sensitivity. In the past I have started discussions about spiritual matters but not touching on any one particular religion. I might have angered others with my replies that resulted in my star ranking sliding down overnight. 'Sensitive' has become a particularly mylot code word for 'don't talk about it'. It postulates that there will be material in the discussion that could possibly upset people so before that occurs, the discussion should not happen or should be severely restricted.

It's probably difficult if not impossible to talk about spiritual matters without getting into specifics of different religions. For example many Christians think that eastern style meditation is evil although the Biblical basis for such a belief is shaky (the Bible advocates meditation but doesn't refer to any form of "evil" meditation). If you start talking about "spirit guides", "angels" or "God" you're going to get religion specific responses. This is likely to be followed by people arguing that they don't agree with that religion, or follow that religion but don't agree with what that person just said about it or don't follow that religion but think that the person who claims to got their facts wrong or is lying. Then things can get complicated and possibly ugly.

Religion is a very sensitive issue all the while.
When we come across this topic, we should be more caution and handle it tactfully.
Always tell the good and positive about the religions.
We should respect to other religion to build up a harmony society.
Never try to misleading and impress other people about other religions negatively.

How do you tactfully tell somebody that you don't believe in their god or that you think that their religion's main prophet was a pedophile, terrorist, lunatic and false prophet? What about somebody who's religion has numerous issues, including intolerance other religions, but who gets angry and often violent at the first hint of criticism?

Religion will always bring about conflict to anyone and everyone with different beliefs once it has been brought up. That is why wars and terrorism become so trendy these days. Why can't we all just get along and fill the world with peace and joy just as every deity, regardless of religion and belief, would want? I just wish everyone would just get along. :(

I don't think that is entirely accurate. I have been between 8-9 stars for awhile and the only two subjects I am ever really talking about or posting about is religion and politics.

The only time I rate anyone is when I think they have written a really great Post or Response. I don't like the little minus sign. And I am not sure what the other one does. It would be nice if none of those were there and we could just chat, but in the real world that just does not happen does it?

I love to talk about religion and I am not bother if they rate me negative. I have heat arguments to someone about religion but I see to it being ended with good friendship...
I accept what they say and I respect what they practice. For me I stand what the bible say and what God purpose

I think it depends on what they are discussing and how they are phrasing their discussion. Because a lot of people will come on MyLot just to rant - and about religion - well, you can understand - everyone has their own beliefs and their own versions of 'the truth' and of course people fight to defend their belief/opinion. I try to stay away from these kinds of discussions..not because I care about my star # but mainly because I don't come online to get into arguments.

I had something like that happen in the political discussions. I also thought I had a stalker because I didn't participate in many political discussions and yet my star number had lowered in spite of the fact I did twice as many other responses.
As a Christian, it upsets me that so many so called Christians act non Christian with their hatred and cruelty. The religious, atheists, and others have been debating long before you and I arrived on this planet. Some people deserve negative response based on the "way" they respond. Your disagreeing with me should not generate a negative response. Yet, don't forget that, sad to say, two things that will bring irrational responses from people are religion and politics.

I post in a lot of religious discussions. Perhaps that's why I didn't have a high rating. Only just realized what those +, - and ! buttons were for (haven't been on MyLot that long).
I have noticed that some people tend to keep insisting that something is so without giving any sort of evidence or reasoning. I was in one discussion about Islam where a lot of people were claiming that Islam was peaceful. However the only people, including me, who were using the Koran as evidence, in fact presenting any evidence at all, were those arguing that Islam was inherently violent. I think that said something about who was right!
I think people get most angry when they don't have a good argument to support their view and other's have good arguments to support an opposing view. This probably means that they're wrong but don't want to admit it. I think this is why certain groups are prone to getting very angry or even violent; because it's the only way they can win an argument!

That's one of the reasons people regularly start discussions about rating, saying 'DO NOT "MINUS" STATEMENTS YOU DISAGREE WITH, BUT ONLY RESPONSES THAT DON'T PERTAIN TO THE DISCUSSION!'
For example, I wrote a discussion to ask whether something religious occurs in nature; but I mentioned I'd learned the religious thing from the Seventh-Day Adventists.
Well, one respondent started on a rant about how she disagrees with the SDA church! I agreed with her (and said so), but 'minused' her response anyway!

The key word here is "respect" Everyone one of us have a belief of their own. Some believed that God exist, and other don't. But I think, whatever we believe in, if we have shown respect with our comment (wether you disagree or agree with a certain religion) they will see what your post really means. Have a nice day.

You are right about those star ratings, however is my star rating really that important?? If a person lowers another's rating simply because they don't agree, what does that say for them? Our choices define who we are. I want people to speak their minds. I want people to be free to tell it like it is. Our interaction brings learning for us all. I will never ever lower a rating based on anything you say so let me have it. I'm going to love you unconditionally regardless. Isn't that the way God really wants us to be???

That´s why I usually don´t answer the discussions under "religion" although it is one of my interests. I am an agnostic and people don´t even know the difference between agnosticism and atheism. But anyway, many people will put in the same bag all religions that are not theirs and decide those peopel are evil.
It is a pity that talking about spiritual subjects should bring out the worst in man.

Yeah I think religion would be a really controversial topic since a lot of people have different views regarding it. Personally, I have nothing against having a religion or not. All of us have our own way of having something to believe in or what we call faith...
