Every on is diferent when it comes to trying to quit smoking. The first thing you need to think about is are you ready to quit? Do you really want to quit? If you are not commited to quiting you won't do it. My advice is to not go full cold turkey but if you want to do it without NRT's then quit one at a time cutting one out per day to start with. See if you can get through the day smoking less. If you get a craving and don't want to light up then chew normal gum as this will help a bit.
Take it one day at a time and quit one cig at a time but be sure you want to.

Cold turkey seems to be the most effective way. I kicked the habit a decade ago, but sadly I went back after only 2 years of breathing smoke-free air. There were several factors that made me smoke again but that's another story. But what I did was I quit cold turkey. One day I was smoking a pack. The next day, I stopped.
