Why do people disinfect everything?

February 5, 2011 7:16am CST
I have noticed lately that a lot of people seem to bee obsessed with disinfecting everything. For example always sterilizing their hands and their children's hands and thinking about germs a lot. This seems to be considered quite normal. I am not talking about people with a psychological problem, just normal people. Are they doing this because they are always sick? I don't worry much about these things and I am never sick.

I do try to sanitize my son as often as i can because i want him to learn about good hygiene. With the emergence of many kinds of diseases right now that never existed before, it made people paranoid of cleanliness as much as they used to. I don't want my son to get sick and spend more in the hospital, i don't want him to suffer. And by the way, children nowadays are more prone to new diseases than we were before because the environment now is changing. So what's wrong with prevention? Remember that prevention is much better than a cure.

Good for you. You stay in good shape. But for the rest, though normal people, they basically protecting themselves from diseases, which nowadays seem to be in everything around us; in air, water, food, etc. Prevention is better than cure.

I just don't think disinfecting does protect you from diseases. I was always taught that a certain amount of germs is good for your immune system. I want to clarify though that I am not talking about concerning food.

I think that people like to disinfect things to help make a healthy environment. Disinfecting can cut down on germs. this can help to reduce illness. It may seem like a waste of time to some, but disinfecting will have its rewards.

It's probably because it is the winter and there are alot of bugs and viruses going around. Where i am people have been dying from swine flu and alot of people have been really ill with normal flu. So i think it is a good precaution to disinfect as much as possible. Luckily i have a good immune system so i haven't been ill this winter and i hope i stay that way! It is especially important for elderley people to stay as far away from viruses as possible as they are the most vulnerable.

This is a really interesting question. haha. I think disinfecting is important in keeping sanitary conditions in your home or workplace especially in places where food is handled like the kitchen or food establishments. Maybe people just want to be safe and preventive of illnesses or diseases. But really some people are just too obsessed in using disinfectants or cleaning themselves. Maybe they're the ones who have psych problems. hehe!
