Questions I ponder by mylot deleting Discussions

For starters I know mylot will delete particular discussions that violates the rules, that is understandable. However, I have had two discussions that I responded to that was deleted and I do not see why. My goodness, one of them was about flavoring of french fries, and if I understood the rules correctly, you cannot delete your own, only mylot can. And do you still get paid/credit for your response if the whole discussion was deleted? I am wanting to know for future reference, to make sure I don't do something incorrect. One other thing, I could see a "posting" violating the rules, but not the whole discussion, so why wouldn't they just delete the posting and not the whole thing ?

Even you start discussion or responding if against the rules and guidelines they will deleted it. So don't be dis-courage instead go on and participate to dicussion but be careful... make it as a challence not to stop and angry. see you around

Discouraged is the keyword here..I am finding its so easy to be discouraged, but like I said, I will keep on, and not take it personally like was suggested.

hi sunshine your french fries was prob ably deleted as a duplicate because I saw several others just like it or it was considered a taking a p oll of users which is also not allowed. no we do not get paid if our disussion is deleted or if our response is on a deleted disuccusion. think of it as the discussion is the trunk of a tree and our responses are leaves so when the tree is cut down in this case deleted, all tghe responses like leaves come down with it and nobody on this tree get p aid.Like I said the software deletes everything with the tree trunk or discussion. read the ru les over carefully and you will see I amright. also if you know the rules you can pretty much stay away from discussions that appear to break a rule.one thing to notice is if the discussion has been posted for a while yet there are

I hate to hear we dont' get paid for it, but of course it makes sense. I love your little mental image of how it works, thats the way I prefer to learn. I am going to have to start paying a little bit better attention ! Thank you for your tips !

Besides the above responses I also wanted to add that there are ties when members themselves report their own discussions. Some may have regrets and or due to slow loading of pages at times discussions get duplicated and unfortunately we are not aware of it being a double posting as perhaps the first one has moved from the new and or recent discussions. That does not happen often but I have experienced this and though maybe it would be helpful to you. Best of luck and happy myLotting.

Thank you, it is helpful. But, I am sitting here thinking that if we need to go back through a bunch of postings to make sure we don't duplicate, that takes time. I am just going to run off myself a copy of the guidelines and take my time going through it lol thanks

When I read 'flavoring of french fries', my first thought was: I hope the discussion was not a recipe. Because the very first thing I told myself to remember about the rules was the one regarding jokes and recipes. We're not supposed to post jokes or recipes as discussions. =P If not that, then maybe the others are right. Maybe it was a poll type discussion, or a double post, or that maybe the one who started it reported it and had it removed. I have seen individual responses being removed though, so I definitely know they can do that. If the whole discussion was removed, then most likely they meant for the whole discussion to be removed. Don't think they'll remove a whole discussion if only particular responses need to be deleted. =)

Sunshine if you realise that myLot is not for questions and answers but for discussions then maybe you will understand things better. A topic should have something that we can debate/talk about/discuss and not just a question requiring an answer. There are other sites for that purpose, not myLot.

All it ask ( if I remember correctly ) was how to you like your french fries flavored. But, who knows perhaps it was violating a rule that I just didn't catch, because the bottom line is there had to be some reason why the whole discussion was deleted, rather by the person that started or by mylot. I just know I going to have to start being real careful what I post and respond to .

Hi! =) I'm back here because I just got a notification about one of my responses getting deleted because the question it was under was deleted. It was the one about pies, and if I'm not mistaken, that was one of your discussions, wasn't it? So, unless you had it deleted, I suppose it's safe to say they probably considered it a poll-type question. Good thing that I saw the notification when I did too, because I was just about to answer a similar discussion. Come to think of it, it's also about fries... Haha. Anyway, I see now that they are quite strict about these things. And we learn as we go along! Have a nice day! =)

Welcome to mylot...my first advice to anyone as I am newbie...read the guidelines closely. Although I have read them several times, I have apparently still missed a lot of stuff. Wish you the best luck and hope you enjoy it as much as I have, but I gotta say, with all the rules it is has taken out a little bit of that fun lol
