Hi Mylotters I was just wondering for those of you who have had recent physicals exams or just been keeping up with medical news if you noticed that the old normal range blood pressure has changed it used to be where the lower dyastolic pressure could be as high as 84 to be considered Ok now it seems it has to be under 80 Whats up with that? I am beginning to think its a pharmacuetical issue they want to push the drugs on you especially the ones that are new so they can make money of you remember they don't make money of of people who are well they only make money off the sick or ailing someone who is told that they need their services all these years the old standard normal range was just fine now all of a sudden its changes? Whats your take on this issue?

I've always thought that it was 120/80 that was considered normal. If it was higher than about 85 on the bottom you had to be careful as it was pre-hypertension. I used to be on high blood pressure meds but they took out one of my adrenal glands and now it's normal!

Hi Macding Did they tell you that when they took out your adrenal gland that it would regulate your blood pressure and get it back to normal? Iv'e never known anyone who had that done before are there any side effects to that besides the good one of having your BP lowered?

Yeah. Actually I struggled with very high - dangerously high blood pressure for several years in my late 20's and early 30's. Then I hurt my knee and needed surgery and they discovered my postassium was dangerously low and we couldn't get it up even with maximum dosages of potassium. A few tests revealed the left adrenal gland was malformed. Once it was out my energy was restored, postassium and blood pressure all returned to normal!

actually, I've always been told it was 80 (not that mine is generally that high...) but maybe because there's a family history of strokes in my family.

Hi Elic I have a family history of high BP and heart disease as well as stroke so I really have to watch it but I just knock on wood that my BP is under control I try to exercise about 4-5 times a week to help keep it in check

I had my blood pressure checked yesterday and it was 119/78. The nurse told me that it was a 'textbook result' (i.e. as close to 120/80 as made no difference. I gather that 145 systolic is regarded as borderline hypertension.
