For that sum of money, I think the best thing to do would be to start a savings account. There are two online banks that are paying above average that I can think of right now. One is Sallie Mae and the other is ING Direct. I am not sure if they only except people from the United States, or not. If so, then you would probably do some research and find the highest paying yields for in your country. It will take a little while to grow, however at least it is not risky and it is guaranteed. As long as you leave the money in the bank, you will be guaranteed the interest that they promise to pay. Plus, it is federally insured, so you cannot lose it. Congratulations on your first payment. I remember the first time I recieved money for watching a family's children to be a very happy experience. Back then, I put all the money into the bank. The interest wasn't much but it was good. I'm not sure how to make the best investment with your money but I think going to the bank would be a good idea.
