Hello Lotters,
This Public consultation has proven to be effective because they knew first hand that the Public and other organizations Will approve the fare increase knowing it would add burden to the commuters.
The Government should look for other Investors or Companies to shoulder the other Billions of Pesos that they have been whining and claim they shoulder so much. a lot of people have been doing their best to tight their budget and the fare increase is the LAST thing they wanted to shoulder since it's just too much.

Whew, I take the MRT everyday on my way to work and trip back home. I prefer the MRT over the buses because I hate the car air fresheners being used at buses it makes me dizzy and wanted to puke. I do admit rising a crowded MRT is not really breeze but makes our lives easier and we get to work much faster. It saves me from the stress of traffic and getting late.

That is good news for all commuters, especially those minimum wage earners who will be hard hit by any fare increase. This is a good respite especially now that almost every commodities are rising their prices.
I couldn't help but feel dismayed every morning whenever I hear newscasters that the Diesel price is rising, that electric rates are rising, that the price of pandesal is also rising.

Hello IshmaelAhab,
Fortunately, the price of pandesal here hasn't risen yet since they ran their operation almost 24 hours a day. only once they increase the price but not that much but reasonable unlike some pandesal owners who sell high price but very low quality of it. as for the diesel price, there's no stopping it since middle east is getting richer from it.

That's good! Yeah, in our place, people also do not tolerate bakeries that raise their price unreasonably. Their pandesals are ignored by buyers. As for the Diesel, yeah, there is no stopping the price increase. Oil companies have many excuses. Now, they are saying that turmoil in Egypt causes the price to rise because the Suez Canal is being affected.
My question is, does our oil supply pass through Suez Canal?

this is a good news to everyone who rides the mrt / lrt station. it would really mean a lot to all of us, right... because two way of riding the train everyday already takes a portion of our salary already. :D im happy that this was delayed... hopefully the topic is never brought up again... haha i wish!

Hello Chiyosan,
I think they should have consider looking for another shoulder grabber instead of passing the expense to the people who get exact and not increased salaries.I am not sure, they got scared because the public consultation didn't give them a favor and yet it back fired on them. but that was a good thing

I don't have anything against the fare increase as long as they are going to provide more trains or at least increase the frequency of trips to three minutes instead of five. But the increase should not be as big as what is being proposed since it will take everyone by surprise. The main reason why people opposed the increase is it's just too big since it's almost double. I think people will understand if there will be an increase since the MRT has to keep up with the times too but it has to be reasonable after all the MRT is there for the masses and not only for those who can afford it.

Hello Ybong,
Well, that's one advantage that I am looking forward to, but that would mean increase of operators and other expenses. I haven't been going out for two years that much but one thing is for certain, people are gonna have to reschedule their budgets and continue to sacrifice a lot of stuff less people are going to the MRT some day as time passes.

The main reason why the MRT and LRT fares are very affordable is because of the sudsidy provided by the government. It's very affordable to the point that it doesn't earn enough so it can be used for other government projects and infrastructures. Right now the MRT and LRT seems to exist to provide convenience to the riding public within metro manila while the money used to subsidize its expenses are taken from the taxpayers which is a bit unfair to the people who live in provinces. If the MRT and LRT are earning then there's a chance where the profit can be used to give back to those who can't ride the MRT in the form of better road perhaps. Its just a matter of give and take,

The news actually says the implementation in March was cancelled as they study the feedbacks. So it may just mean they postpone it, not scrap the increase altogether.

Hello Greenpeas,
Too bad at least it will have longer convenience now for the Commuters until they have change their minds. if they want to earn from it they should have done this a long time ago so that it wouldn't hurt nor shocked passengersbut i guess it's a way lower down the overcrowded number of passengers

That's good to hear. I ride the MRT/LRT during weekends when I go out or visit my friends from afar. It would be a huge adjustment for me if the fares increase two-fold. I'd have to cut back on my costs and save more. I heard that the increased cab rate had already been implemented? It's now 40 pesos flag-down rate and an additional 4.50 for the set number of kilometers? I'm not sure. Maybe this time around I'd ride cabs less often. lol =D

Hello Geloo5,
It's really awful when low wage earners have to save and sacrifice more soon they might even eat one fourth kilo of rice every week as for the increased cab i think we should be aware now so that we would be able to watch out for abusers. that's utterly expensive and very unfare for commuters who received the same set of salaries.

True. And not only are the prices for transportation increasing, but also the cost of living expenses, food and other basic necessities. It's just sad to think that as the expenses are increasing, still wages of the common people are still static, making everyday a daily struggle. :(

Oh I was expecting the increase, but now that you mentioned that it was canceled, I have to say that I am thankful. When the fare increase was first reported and heard over the news, I was not then affected because I am not a commuter. However, since today, I began to choose the LRT transport again to reach on my Wednesday and Sunday appointments to Santolan station (LRT 2). Reading this discussion is a relief for me.

Hello Maean,
More like being Cancelled "for the moment" since it was not favorable during the public consultation there. i think it won't be long too until they decided to increase the fares anyways..but of course, it is a relief that for now, you have the opportunity to save money increase they do increase it someday.

judging from the large "pabaon" of some of our officials and the current brouhaha. It seems it not a question of how much money the governemnt has but whether where is it going.
... or maybe they're getting greedy again and are looking for more ways to bleed the taxpayer dry!

It was an ill-conceived public consultation - they announced fare increase first and then belatedly thought of consulting the public first. They tipped off their hand and so they ended up with the proverbial egg on their faces. I have not looked at the issue of MRT/LRT regulation yet and so I am not sure whether a public consultation is needed to effect an increase. This administration does not have the whatchamacallit to effect desired change. I'm sorry LK, but I have always been an Advocate of free market. The fares are just not reflective of the demand. I do not know why people think that the MRT/LRT is a need that has to be addressed. As I keep saying, it is a mere convenience and those who ride in it have to pay for it just like paying for the ambience in a restaurant. If they can't afford the MRT/LRT, then ride a bus or jeep. I do not want the rest of the country paying for my convenience, it is just not fair.

Hello the Advocate,
So, that means you favor the increase and doesn't believe in the public consultation? well, this country is in deterioration very slowly and I couldn't think of any explanation besides that.. I doubt if i can ride the MRT again if it reaches beyond twenty pesos not back and fort ride.

I ride the LRT everyday going to school and back home. This is indeed good news for me and the others who rides the LRT everyday. My budget would be ruined if the fares were to increase.

Hello Hexeduser,
Well, I guess this is the moment for you to save more at least you can really be sure that you have time to save more so that it wouldn't hurt to much.one day they will eventually increased the number of fees in the LRT or MRT and we all have to prepare to save money as many as possible

Hello metatronik,
I am not sure though but i've heard it was manny pangilinan who bought almost one billion shares of MRT or LRT but am not sure if that leads to saving or more prone to fare increase
