Is it Better Having loads of Money while you suffer from Depression?

February 6, 2011 3:14pm CST
I dont have much money now, but i dream that if i did it would make me alot happier to the extent it would also make my depression better, if not go away!. I know there are medication, ive been on most of them through my life and really dont think they helped me. If i could travel around the World, new sceneria would help me cope. Thats what i believe, what do you think.........

well .. its all greediness...but one thing i can tell you...you cant buy happiness with money..they are short-lived and soon fades away..and you are back to ground zero.. true happiness only comes when you become one with THE LORD ALMIGHTY.. having lot of money when depressed only gonna ruin your cause. cause thats when.. you will realize having lots of money.. is of no use. and you cant do anything. .and your situation worsens...

Jasper, I understand where you are coming from. However, I don't think anything makes depression go away. I have suffered from depression all my life. Some day are better than other. I've been on medication all my adult life and should've been on it as a child. I think being rich would probably bring a different set of issues I don't need to deal with. Just do what I do what I do, live one day at a time. Best of luck to you. I will keep you in my thoughts, pends how I know what you are going through.

I think I will not be in stress if I have loads of money as I already have plans, what I am going to do if I have such money. The depression would be in different way but I can guarantee we can cope the depression if not all than a bit of it.

I have always believe that money is something that can't buy us happiness neither can money buy us true love. Money is the means for something else. What you are searching for is true happiness. THe happiness that money gives you allows you only temporary happinesses. You will not feel happy forever just with more money. Furthermore, have you thought about where will you get all these money from? You mention that if you can travel around the world and having some new scenery will help you, I sorry, but I don't think you can ever get out of depression. THis is because you keep thinking that your current life is very bad and this is the reason why it is difficult for you to get out of depression. I believe that you want to recover and don't want to be on medication for your whole life. Although I am not a doctor, I hope that you will start having confidence in your medicine that it will cure you. Only when you believe in yourself, will you be able to get well. ANd over here, I wish that you will get well soon!

No maybe not 100%, but if you buy the right type, it could be 95% great, but i agree with you, a dream is a dream.....thanks for your comments,

Money is powerful you know even if it is very helpful in our day to day life. Its the reason why people undermine other people to get hold of vast amounts of money. I am not saying that I do not like money but it will not make me a better person if I have many. I heard that depression is caused by some biochemical imbalance in our body. So possibly, even if you change scenarios, even if you travel around the world, when you feel alone and empty then I think its useless. I am sorry to say that. I hope you will be better. Depression is really hard to beat especially if you don't want to win over it. I pray that you become happy and contented with life. :)
8 Feb 11
yes you are so right, but by having more money, my diet would be better and might fix the imbalances, its been proven that it can.Thats another headline discussion right there!!, there is many classes in society, they say 3 at least. So im in bottom, but the thing is soon the middle class will be wiped out, because it will only be rich and poor, or so i read in a magazine, but no-matter what, keping busy has been helping, thanks again...

I wouldn't trade money for a happy and peaceful life. What's the point of amassing so much wealth when your physical or emotional health is suffering? We are no strangers to stories of people who live a 'dark' life behind their wealth. But again, it's a matter of personal choice. Some people put more value on financial status while others long for happiness. Regarding your situation, I guess it would be a nice try if you indeed take a break and explore more of yourself by traveling or even simply staying in a new place, a new environment. Your situation reminds of a book which I have recently read and is an international bestseller, 'Eat Pray Love.' It talks a woman's search for pleasure, spirituality, and balance as she traveled from Italy to India to Indonesia. Sometimes, a change in environment could bring out in us a new perspective.

yes i agree, but a change of enviroment would still cost money, something i do not hav much of. But one thing ive learned since joining mylot, about a week or just over ago, is that even sharing how you feel, by discussion is better than sitting wollowing. Thanks for your comments i take a little of everyones and im feeling better every day now...

I think being rich would be great. I think it would in fact make my depression go away. For one I would have everything I wanted materialistic. I wouldnt have to worry about money and how I was going to be able to afford to take care of my kids. I wouldnt have any money worries. Since I have clinical depression and take medicine for it I could afford to pay for any medicine I needed to treat my depression. See money is awesome lol. How I wish I had more of it.
8 Feb 11
Hi, love your name!, it reminds me of when i was a much happier person. I will have to get back into that again, infact it might be my next discussion heading.Yes you think the way i do, to be honest everyone could do with more money. Except the ones with 100 million upwards, i cannot seem to comprehend why they need all that money.Plus you do not hear of them helping, because most of them dont. That would make me even more sad not helping with my money. Believe me i have clinical depression to, since i was a teenager, at 15 i used to self harm and take overdoses, sometimes every week.I dont like most of the medication, ive had them all through the last 26 or more years. I do love this though, thanks for your comments...

I believe you are having the money dependency depression. When you do not have money, you will become worry, and keep thinking of the bad things. This is all because you are thinking of the money is too important. No doubt, money is important, and we need money for our daily needs, but if we too depend on it, it will become a burden for us, and in your case, it became a kind of illness and it make you feel sick. So, be more positive thinking and always think that life will be better if you are more happy but not with more money.
7 Feb 11
No its not really that, as ive said above, its been as long as 11 years my family , my partner, 2 daughters, we havent had much at all. I took not well, off work with Sciatic nerve pain after slipping a disc in my spine at work. Then because there were problems with Benefits etc, we had to pay full rent for a while. After that i couldnt get a job due to to much time off work, so its more than that. thanks for your comments though.....

Of course not. Feeling good and being happy is the most important thing in the world, no money in the world will help you if you don't have that.

Yes i agree, io agree with all of you!!, but im talking about having comfortable money, not to be a millionaire, although you are right money cannot buy you happyness, but surely it must help. If i could just have gotten away a holiday, that summer there, my family and me havent been for one since my youngest daughter was born thats eleven years ago. Its that kind of money i mean, although maybe i shouldnt have headed it that way. your comments are all great, thank you, you were all rated by me, i hope we can keep in touch, thank you all....

Yes, having loads of money can cure depression! Wioth your money you can go to an exclusive resort, pamper your self with so many massage spas , see shows in Vegas, gamble in casinos and everything that money can buy. I think those suffering from depression are those buried in debts and money problems, (how to have them) is the cause!

that was what i meant, to go for say a 4 week holiday, then come back for 2 weeks, then maybe away for 2 weeks then stay for 2 weeks and so on. But you are all so true, that would not be a life, im sure sum people do travel around the world similar though?, wouldnt it be fun, you couldnt get sad could you, thanks for your lovely comments....

The old saying is "Money is trouble and cant buy happiness... How True is that I really don't know! If your dealing with a serious depression, Your best bet would be to see a Doctor or maybe a Psychiatrist. One thing I have learned throughout my time is that even if you have loads of money, Your problems will not go away and even if you move out of the area, the state, or the country unfortunately your baggage comes with you. I can relate to you because I also suffer from depression. Im not sure how you feel about medication, but for some people certain medication can be nothing short of a life saver. I truly wish you the best, I also suffer from depression my friend. Please don't think your alone. Millions of people also suffer from depression. Does Depression run in your family, My friend? If you ever need someone to chat with I would be more then happy. How long have you suffered from Depression? Does it run in the family? and if you feel comfortably talking about it what kind of medications are you currently on. Personally I take Alprazolam/xanax, It does help but the problem is it is very addicting and can cause more trouble in the long run. I have heard conflicting reports on Prozac, Some people say it has truely saved there life while others say it did the complete opposite. Ever consider learning meditation? I personally have heard really good things about it. Once Again, If you ever want to talk PLEASE Feel free to drop me a message ANYTIME Day or Night. I can relate to you Take it ONE Day at a Time, Thats all we can do my friend. Best Wishes, Larry

A line from the song In the Arms of an Angel "Need some distraction..." that's what money (both making it and having it to spare) gives you---more stuff to do. If you don't have stuff to do, you start thinking about yourself. Thinking about yourself too much leads to depression.

You are so right, boredum plays a huge part in my ;life, thats why a friend insisted i get into this and a few other things to keep me a little more busy than i have been, thanks for your comments, hope we can stay in touch......

I think the only way money would help with my depression is that it would take some of the stress off of my family for being low on funds. We wouldn't have to worry about rent and the bills as much. Yeah, I could see how that would make me a bit happy. Either way though, I would still more than likely feel depressed afterward, because it runs in my family, and I've been dealing with it most of my life, so I doubt money or material things could make it go away. It wouldn't solve how I feel about myself, it wouldn't solve my anxiety, it wouldn't solve a lot of things. Oh, if only.

i think it might because you would have less worries and you could do more and get more things you wanted.

thats what i was thinking, distractions would help, most of the luxury ones would cost a bit, so until one of you Mylot millionaires get me a nice holiday, the lottery is my only hope?, thanks for your comments....

I think you would actually have more to worry about. It's just a different type of worry. Even wealthy people suffer from depression.

I think when you are depressed, having a lot of money won't help a lot because you are already too depressed and upset to spend money on anything, not liek you are unhappy so you can go shopping to relieve the sadness.
8 Feb 11
yes thats true, especially with deep depression, ive been in hospital with that a few times in my life and your right money doesnt come into it. I mean the whole different enviroment that money can bring, that would or could help me get a change, a calmer way to live maybe!, thanks all your comments are helping me....

I understand totally where you are coming from. Money may not totally "fix" the depression...BUT it sure would help, or at least in my mind i could see it helping too. New atmosphere...new life, new start...could create a new outlook and lessen the darkness of the consuming depression.

I think depression is, maybe a result of having a lot of money?! Sometimes overdoing things to earn levels to not having a time for yourself or your interest at all. Can you imagine yourself eating in a five-star restaurant but doing it alone and nobody seems to appreciate how wealthy you have become. It's that hard you reserve for a table for one? I guess that is the same for you. Just try to relax and think of rewarding yourself. Having friends around you can keep you occupied, maybe one can bring about good idea you can pick for your own application in life. Maybe a meaningful relationship can grow with a friend or a friend of a friend of a friend. May be diverting your love to music can move some of the depression in you. Well I know one thing more than all of this, You have got to be on top of yourself no matter what, Its up to you to know everything that inspire you to live life happily and you know that getting to know to all "wrongs" make you understand what is right. I didn't recommend you to be a saint just be in the right road to take, although I have meticulously explained much in advance what does happen to one that's a millionaire but has none beside him at his spotlight. Balance is a word for everybody, like being happy or sad is a continuing cycle of life, above all this is we have a choice, a gift entrusted to us therefore making us untangled in hard decisions for so many ways. God is good.

thanks you are so,so right in what you say, this is a great way of self-help through others. Its like 20 agony aunts and uncles all trying to help. Its been a great experience, thank you....
