Some of the great progressive rock bands of the past which I truly enjoy listening are King Crimson and Rush, whose complex music and intelligent lyrics influenced many other bands and led to the development of progressive metal. My favourite band in this genre is also Dream Theater, which is absolutely amazing, but I also enjoy other great bands like Queensryche,Fates Warning,Angra,Symphony X,Shadow Gallery,Vandenplas or Threshold.I think these bands deserve far more attention that the so-called 'rock'bands and styles which are played on Mtv,a channel I stopped watching a long ago;I prefer radio stations on the internet for great music.Anyway, progressive is undoubtedly one of the most complex and at the same time fascinating types of music.

When you say a Progressive genre, what do you mean. I can think of progressive rock, bands like Pink Floyd, King Crimson just to name two. Their bands from the 60's/70's and may be of interest to you.

Okay, I'm terrible, I know but any time I find someone looking for new music in any sort of rock genre I have to offer the boys of Kill Hannah. They've been called just about everything imaginable by the music media (rock, emo, post punk, nu romantic, shoegaze) and I think "progressive" has also come up somewhere along the way.
I usually tell everyone to start with the singles - Kennedy, Lips like Morphine, Strobe Lights, Boys and Girls (which may be a little poppier than you are looking for) - and then check out Nerve Gas, Crazy Angel, Paper Dolls, Get Famous... and then let me know what you think (unless you hate them, then lie :D).
They have eight official videos on YouTube - Kennedy, LLM, From Now On, Boys and Girls, Agent Orange Skies, Hit the Planes Down, Unwanted and the newest one, Promise Me.
