I actually have a couple favorite authors; Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I think they are both brilliant horror and suspense novelists, and I truly can't get enough of their books. My all time favorite Koontz novel is The Watchers. And a few of my faves by Mr. King are Rose Madder, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The Langoliers, Under The Dome, Misery...oh the list could go on and on.
I guess if we are going by how many books of who's I loved the most, King would be the top. But I think Koontz is really really good too.
Some other authors I really love are Nora Roberts, Iris Johanson, and James Patterson. I like tons of books by other authors though, I just haven't read as many of their books as my listed authors.
Good discussion!

These authors are great if you want to get your teeth into a book as they are quite long and detailed - I loved Dreamcatcher and think the film does not do it justice! I still need to check a toilet before using it sometimes! They are a bit scarey but in the safety of your own home that is a good thing along the same lines as fairground rides. They make me appreciate how lucky my life is.

Magical: I actually never read Dreamcatcher, I don't even really know what it's about!! But I don't like the sound of having to check toilets before using them!!! lol
MH: I like some "nice" books too. There is one book called Crazy For You by Jennifer Cruise...there's a guy stalking his ex-girlfriend, but it isn't done in like a dark way. I think it was a really "fun" read and I loved the characters in it. You might like it! I'm actually saving it for my 'to read again' list. lol

i love romance books. i have just recently started reading paranormal romances. i think I've heard about the Calhoun Chronicles i just did not know who the author was. thanks for the info. i go looking for them ASAP. the book your reading sounds very intresting. let me know when you finish if it has a good or sad ending. it sounds kinda like a comedy as well with the elder playing matchmaker, as the older generation are wont to do.

I would explain Susan Wiggs' writing as Romance. the book I am currently reading is called Summer Hideaway. It is about a nurse named Claire who takes people who are in their last couple months of life to help them fufill, for lack of a better term, their bucket list. The man she is currently working with has a grandson who was in the war and he comes to stay with his grandfather in the last couple months of his life. The grandfather continusly tries to hook up Ross (his grandson) and Claire.
The Summer Hideaway is part of a series called "The Lakeshore Chronicles" there are about 7 books in that series. They arent all the same story though. They are just books written about different cottages and resorts in North Seattle. This book that I am reading is the 2nd book I've read in "The Lakshore Chronicles" series. There about 6 different series that Susan Wiggs writes, some examples are, "The Tudor Rose Trilogy" "Chicago Fire Trilogy" and "Calhoun Chronicles".
Hopefully I have inspired you to read Susan Wiggs novels. She truely is a great writer. :D
Happy Reading.

Favorite author? Do I have to pick? I don't know if I can pick. I like lots of authors but I just don't know if I can pick one that I like the most. My childhood favorites were Bruce Coville and Frank Peretti. Some of my big favorites now are Cinda Williams Chima, Rick Riordan, Wayne Thomas Batson, Bryan Davis, Ted Dekker, and Stephen Lawhead. I've also been a big fan of C.S. Lewis for a very long time.

i absolutely love Stephanie Meyer's twilight saga. i mean the movies has nothing on the books. while the tars are cute the actual action and drama is sort of missing due to the limitations on the special effects. there is only so much a special effect can do. ones imagination is unlimited.

Well I adore Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. Cinda William Chima wrote the Heir Trilogy, another one of my favorites. I love the Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker and the King Raven Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. I've read and loved all of Frank Peretti's books but my favorite would have to be This Present Darkness.

Mine would have to be Dan Brown (Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code) because he makes history interesting.

That depends--of course--on your preference. I haven't seen Angels & Demons, but The Da Vinci Code kinda clarified some scenery that The Da Vinci Code wasn't very detailed on
(which is good, because neither Dan Brown nor Ron Howard really wanted you to think about the scenery too much; but--when the scenery's in the peripheral field-of-vision--it kinda helps make the story 'realer.')
Maybe that's just my general view on movies-from-books.

Whenever I have the time, I like reading classical books. My favorites are Charles Dickens and Leo Tolstoy. Excellent stories, and excellent ways of writing. When I travel by air on long flights, I make sure that I have a book of either of them. I have also seen movies based on their novels.

I have a few... Stephen King although because of his writing style there are a few of his books I don't want to even attempt reading. The Stand, IT... the movies were amazing but the books weigh more than my head and some of his short stories have more detail than I can handle.
Jim Butcher ... pretty much, I am ADDICTED to the Dresden Files. The Codex Alera series is pretty awesome too but the Dresden Files is ... addicting.
Neil Gaiman ... end of. :D He's NFG, not much more to say than that.

I'm like you, there are some Stephen Kings I won't read, not because their to long, but because I think they'll be too disturbing for me. The Stand and It are definitely on my 'no way' list! lol. So it Dolores Claibourne (spelling?).
If you were to ever read one of his long books, I think you should give his newest one, Under the Dome, a chance. It is over a 1,000 pages (but there is a blank page between each new section. But the book was really good and I found it hard to put down, so despite it's length I finished it fast.

I have a few favorite authors. Stephen King, Robert B. Parker, Clive Cussler, and James Patterson. I really enjoy books that are a part of a series such as Cussler's Dirk Pitt, Parker's Jesse Stone, and Patterson's Alex Cross. I love the suspense and the mystery that all these author's provide their readers. You start with the first book in that series and you can't wait to complete it and to go right on to the next. A good author keeps you hooked!

i am sorry but i think Stephen King has some serious issues that need to be worked out in therapy. his book "IT" gave me nightmares for a while week. or maybe i have a very fertile imagination. James Patterson is too much mystery for me to enjoy his books. i have never heard of Robert B. Parker or Clive Cussler.

It would have to be a tie between jk rowling and tolkein. They both opened my mind up to such imaginary tales. I love fantasy and escaping into a really innovative and exciting book with plenty of lovely metaphors entangled throughout. I would have to say Rowling is my favorite because the harry potter series is what really got me to start loving to read/imagine.

My fave would be Stephen King. He writes best selling novels and his novels were all suspense novels. I like the way he writes, full of mystery. He'll have you thinking and hooked! He'll turn you into a thinking machine, but the conclusion would be different in the end. :)
Dan Brown too for the DaVinci code and Angels and Demon.

Hmm, there are just lots of them that I like. Tolkien, Eco, Grisham, Crichton, Morrel... But I think Mario Puzo stands out from the list and it took just one book to make him tops for me. "The Godfather." It's fiction but I felt it gave me a glimpse of Sicilian families living in America in the 1930's.
