Hi All, The La Liga has shaped quite well this season. In terms of goals scored, both Messi and Ronaldo are at top having scored 24 goals in the league so far. However, Messi has played 3 games less than Ronaldo to score the same. But that won't be counted at the end of the season when it comes to decide the top goal scorer.David Villa is third with 14 goals. So, it looks to be a race between Messi and Ronaldo. Who do you think will win this award of the top goalscorer in La Liga this season?

This awards are very damaging to team sports, like Xavi said, in football there shouldn't be any individual rewards, because it tends to make players selfish and egoistic. Of course, this is a very objective one, but still players tend to shoot more and not pass, even if the teammate is in a better position. However, to respond to your question, I think that Ronaldo will be the top scorer, but Barcelona will win all the trophies this season. And I am saying this as a Bayern Munchen fan, but I have to admit that Barcelona has the best team in the world right now, with Xavi and Iniesta being the "brains" of this machinery.

Yes, they motivate player to perform better, but only on personal matter and not in team play. Of course, there are many players who don't care for the personal awards, but the most of them will.

I think for some awards can make them selfish while for others they are further motivated to do well. Its only how one sees it. There are always two different sides to a coin and both are important. Only thing is that the timing should be right.

The funny part of that list is that of the three, only David Villa is an out and out striker. Both Messi and Ronaldo play off the front striker and are yet so effective. I think they are two of the best players in the world and deserve all the credit. Personally I prefer Messi over Ronaldo as I feel Messi is more of a team man than Ronaldo. Cheers! Ram

Good observation. David Villa is the only striker but while playing he swaps his position and mostly plays wide left. And yes, Messi is more a team player than Ronaldo.

I think Messi will score more goals. Barca are a superior team with superior players that will create more chances for messi. Also I think Messi is a better and more tricky player in the penalty box and can create more chances for himself than any other player. They are both machines when it comes to scoring goals, absolutly sensational. However I do feel sorry for Ronaldo, because he is a good player and in another era he probably would be the leading light but ubfortunatly for him Messi is around at the same time, and is taking most of the plaudits.

Yes, they are goal scoring machines. Very right. And since Messi has arrived no other player has been able to take the limelight like him.

It's very diffucult to answer this question. Ronaldo and Messi are the world's best football players. barcelona seems to be very strong this season and they score many goals, so I think Messi will win the award of being the topscorer. Messi scored 3 goals against Atletico and yesterday we could see that Ronaldo wanted to score 3 goals too, but he "only" managed to score 2.

Yes, both are best players but Messi has edge since he got players like Xavi and Iniesta to provide more assists.

exactly. Barcelona has a very strong midfield, and they make many assists to Messi

I think that Messi is far better than Ronaldo.. But this will be one of the toughest fights for the golden boot this season and it is extremely difficult to predict which player will walk away with the golden boot..
