Hi friends! Life sometimes gets boring when we keep doing the same things again and again, it becomes a dull affair. Many of us live a rigid routine and do a fixed kind of job and after sometime, we get bored with our jobs. I once read in a magazine that one should innovate and try to do something unusual. The one idea to make us busy and keep our memory sharp is – we can draw a sketch of the person sitting in front of us, irrespective of our ‘art’ skills (either at our workplace or at our home). For those who write with their ‘right’ hand can practice to write with their left hand. I am a right handed person and when I tried it, I found it very awkward to write clumsy and haphazard letters through my left hand, yet it was a fun. Many of us are found of movies, another unusual idea relating to movies is – you can switch off volume of your TV/DVD player and can see a movie silently. Seeing gestures and movements of characters in the movie, you could imagine or create your own dialogues in your mind. If you know about some unusual ideas like the above I have mentioned here, would like you to share with us.

I seldom get bored because when i noticed i am, i divert my attention to one that could entertain me. Besides, even if my everyday life is routinary, i find enjoyment in going home at the end of the day, do some mylotting, watch my favorite TV programs and most of all be with my husband and talk with our daughter on the phone. I enjoy each day and never let boredom catch me.

Wow, I like the idea of watching the DVD and put it on silent mode. Have our own creative dialogues, that is really interesting! There was once in the movie "Date Night" (if I am not mistaken), the couple went out for dinner and they just observe others and simply guess what the others were talking about ... they sound fun and they laugh a lot! Ha, ha, ha ..I don't think I dare to try that. If I am bored or tired after shopping, I will sit at the mall and just randomly observed other shoppers and their actions.

I have a household routine and I normally do not get bored with my work. I try to innovate very frequently in cooking and love it. Secondly, I love to watch old films and would watch them .I love internet and spend time searching for some work.Stock market is very much a part of me and there is no boredom here whatsoever.Making a new dish is one way of deviation from routine.Reading an old book provides the best escape route from boredom.

Hello Deepak, You have started a very useful discussion for this era, as you know the most dangerous disease that is spreading in full speed today and is covering people of almost all ages ,is memory loss in simple language, but Alzheimer's disease in medical dictionary and is very complicated kind of sickness which mostly has a very sad end.Brain becomes weak, when one does not utilize it, and thus new cells are not formed in brain and it starts to die. You are right we should do something new and interesting activity rather than following the same monotonous boring routine. I have liked your ideas a lot. They are simple and interesting. I am sure many people will agree with you and will also take advantage of your advice. I have already noted down these points for my old age. which is not very far... Thanks for wonderful tips in this discussion

Thanks for appreciating the discussion. You are very right Apsara that slackness in memory and fading memory could be very upsetting. We tend to lose our memory strength, as we grwo older and each passing day, we are growing older.. If you try to implement any of the ideas mentioned in my post, am hopeful you will 'enjoy' doing it. All the best. PS- I feel that those who keep taking part in mylot discussion will always have a sound memory.

Life is sometimes very boring. Every day, there are regular activities that we have to do, and routines makes us bored. When boredom comes, we want to escape from routine activities. To avoid boredom, I often open the internet.

No matter how boring a job is with some innovation it can be made interesting. An example would be eating at the same table day in and day out. The venue could be changed, the plates could be changed, the seating could be changed, even the dishes could be changed - the list is endless.

lol..I've never tried anything 'innovative' in such situations. I have never found my work boring...except the cooking on a daily basis and planning the menu...lol At that point, I probably listen to some songs...do a sudoku puzzle and I am fine. 'Bore' is a word I used years ago...after the kids come into the picture....I wish there are times when I AM bored...sadly that doesn't look like it's going to happen any time in the future :( So, I don't have an opportunity to try any of the 'innovative' things you have mentioned.

lol...guess there's nothing repeatitive in the life of a mom with kids.Sometimes I prefer repeatitive tasks and am comfortable with that. So, I wouldn't think of trying something different just to change that. It's all in the mind, I suppose. At one point of time, Sudoku was a repetitive task for me....I needed to do the Sudoku every morning...first thing :P

Hi SV! If you have not tried anything innovative, you can try one of the ideas, mentioned by me in my post. Work may not be boring but doing something repeatitive could be monotonous, is not it? Solving sudoku puzzle or solving cross-word puzzle is one of the best exercises of mind to keep our memory sharp.

It is good to hear that you do not get bored by doing repeative tasks . In that case, you need not apply the ideas, which I mentioned in my post.

Our daily routines can often put us into a rut. Life can seem to become dull and boring at times. Trying out new things and altering our routines a bit can change those moments for us. When life is exciting to us, it brings us more joy. We should do what we can to experience all the joy we can.

Doing he same work coninuously is boring and it is tedious. In the nature work we do we cannot helpt sometimes. We cannot also do different types of work every day.Doing the same work is unavoidable many times. But we should learn to relax in the middle of the work. Some hobbies really recreates a person and makes him or her to be fresh in the next session. As I feel just going out and beath fresh air and come back to work. This is best method as far as I know..

One would think you had a lot of free time in your hands and then one would wonder whether its because you have achieved all that you set out to achieve! I want to do so much and i can't even find the time to do that!! Or are you saying all this because you want to keep yourself on toes, so that you can maintain your focus on your goals!! Back to the topic, well i have considered writing with the non dominant hand and presently i am working on perfecting two different hand writing fonts!! yes it involves repetition but its not monotonous or boring!!

You yourself attempted one of the ideas mentioned in my most and I do believe that writing with both hands give you a kind of satisfaction?

Life for me was very boring and monotonous only till i got married.. Before marriage all i used to do was work from 9 am to 5 pm come home got to play soccer from 7pm to 9pm, have dinner go to sleep and follow the same routine through out the week.. After marriage my work still stays the same but the activities after work have changed, i play soccer 2-3 a week now, the new stuff is going out for movies and dinners and parties.. Plus the new additions in our life our baby boy has completely changed our lives.. Work will always be boring and monotonous but coming back home and having him your arms and seeing that smile on his face makes me forget every worry.
