How to keep Pipes from bursting

Hi everybody! I'm snowed in at home with my husband today after a big snowstorm...Well I am not complaining cause I get to spend quality time with him and just cuddling and watching movies together but what's worrying me is that our pipes might give up and burst suddenly... I closed off kitchen door and the bathroom door closed to keep the heat on the area where we generally stay so I don't know if that is going to be good for my pipes...Any tips out there???

Make sure you keep your cupboard doors open...where the pipes are..so they are getting some heat....you can also wrap them...I know it sounds funny but they do stay warmer when you wrap them!

Thanks, now I have them open...I just thought it was going to keep my house warmer if I keep some of the doors closed but now I know better...=)

Are the pipes on an outside uninsulated wall? Does the temp go below 32° in the kitchen or bathroom when closed off? (Ooh, I can't imagine going to the bathroom in freezing temps! Brrrr.) I doubt you have to worry about your interior pipes. One trick though (generally if no heat is present) is to turn faucets on at a drip. It keeps the water moving through the pipes and less likely to freeze.

Not really sure, but my husband keeps telling me that the pipes are all right and eversince he bought the house it hasn't burst on him...Yeah it gets pretty cold on kitchen and bathroom but now I have the doors open...Right now the temperature outside is 16 degrees it was negative last night...=( Oh and yes, I do keep the bathroom faucet dripping overnight so I guess that's one good tip right?

oh that must be a worry, I have never been in such a cold place, I am not sure I would be able to cope, I think I would stay in bed with the electric blanket on...I hope all works out for you...stay warm.

Well that is a good option but we can't very well stay in bed all day so we just try to do some chores around the house, but today we're just watching TV and me updating mylot every once in a while....Have a wonderful day.=)
