Hello SomniatorIdealist!
Well, when I have to study for an exam I divide my materials into small chapters or subjects. This way I can follow my progress much better then when I have all the material in front of me. After this, I am reading every subject and see if I get the point. When I consider I understood I try to explain the chapter to myself, without the book. If this works, then i go to another subject. Also, when I finish all the material I had to study, I take a quick look on the subjects and see if there is anything I am not remembering. I recommend that you do that in a random order, so you can simulate the exam conditions. Then, when you're pleased with you're work, you should be a night away from the exam...so have a good night sleep and good luck!

See this is why I stopped doing traditional, tedious studying. Now granted, that does work for some people and my method really doesn't work for some people. However, I tend to take a lot of notes as the class is going on. Perhaps I might do a little bit of the token studying, but really its just retreading old ground and to be honest, if I can get the same amount of studying spread over in increments as the class goes on while relaxing before the exam, then so much the better. It is much better then trying to force the issue in the weeks before the exams.
So yeah, that method of studying might work but you got to start right away. I think that most of the time I really do good. Then again, for school, I tend to have a rather decent memory. If you have a decent memory and perhaps a little bit of focus, then that does help. There might be some loose ends to tie up but by the time I'm done throughout the semester, I rarely study at all. Then again that is just me and just because I get good grades in spite of this, does not mean it will work for everyone else.

I was exactly like that when I was at school, but I really had no interest at the time to learning at school..it wasn't until I was in my twenties I had the yearning to learn...I think the want to learn comes to people at different times....

Its not that I don't WANT to learn.I love learning new things. The make me stop and think about our world. But the thing is I get bored with all those old concepts and I prefer reading other science books than the ones assigned to us in school. On the internet I love searching on questions and topics I don't know. But I should start studying.I say that to myself everyday............

I don't really know how to study that well. For my developmental midterm I just read some chapters of the book over. I didn't read the full chapters, but just the amount that was covered in class notes. I didn't do so hot on the midterm however. We haven't gotten it back yet, but I already know that I got one question wrong from talking to the TA who wrote it. It was so unfair though because the material the question covered was never mentioned in class. I told the TA this and he said he would bring it up with the professor. I hope the professor decides to discount that question and just give us those points. I really want to do well in my classes, but it's so hard to. I have quizzes either on a daily basis or weekly basis and always miss one or two questions. Is it so hard to be perfect?

I know how you feel. I have huge exams starting tomorrow but still I'm here on mylot. I don't know I can't seem to motivate myself to study. It's boring and even if i force myself to study, I just seem to be reading some words and line, nothing goes inside this head of mine :(

I have gone through the same thing as you are currently experiencing, you can actually try and test yourself by closing the text book and doing some assessments to see if you really know the answers, and if you don't then you probably should know what you need to study, if you are able to answer them correctly, then move on to the next chapter/topic. Hope it helps ;) it worked for me!
