Don't You Hate It When a Doctor/Nurse Will NOT Hear You Out?

When I ask that.. I don't mean that they think that you are a hypochondriac or overreact, I mean when they flat out won't listen by not even giving you the chance to talk. I've had a flu or some sort of infection(s) since shortly before Christmas, and a couple of days ago, it appears to have settled down into one of my bad teeth, infecting my tooth/jaw. It didn't go away on its own and hasn't been alleviated by any home remedies, but when I called my usual doctor's office to get in, they said that they were booked through until late next week. I'm very careful about getting infections so close to my heart, as I have a weakened immune system. I took an appointment with another clinic instead. I've been there twice before, and usually only go when there are no soon openings at my usual doctor. So.. I got to my appointment today, the nurse asked me what prescription medications that I take. I take about 8, and yes, I remember the names of each one and the dosage amount. But the nurse wouldn't hear me out. She took the name of just one prescription and told me the next time to bring them in. I take one pain killer, one medication for my blood pressure, and another that's a psychotropic for anxiety.. taking note of these things is important! When the doctor asked if I was allergic to any medications and I said "Not to medications directly, but to gelcapsules and two VERY common ingredients in them".. he wouldnt finish hearing me out either. I tried to tell him that I am allergic to gelcapsules, red dye#40, methyl, and methane... but nope. When the pharmacy delivered my prescription... wanna guess what it was? Huge, red gelcapsules. *headdesk* I might as well have paid someone $150 to feed me poison! The situation really hexes me off.

Personally this only goes to show how LAX doctors are getting and who they really listen too, is often only themselves. Gone are the days where Doctors really cared and listened to someone, and it is really Sad. Last yr. I seen a Doctor who thank goodness I chose to be proactive with who refused to really listen and work with me, and even gave me a medication I knew I was allergic too as well. When I complained they tried to say it was me, and I was not cooperating to where I left there after owing them over $2000 after insurance, and going to my Doctor for something better that could help me out as well. Too bad we cannot go back to the Good ole days where a doctor wanted to treat you instead of insurances telling that what is Best.

Yeah I have a doctor who has no time to hear people out because he is always in a rush to get to the next patient. What I don't like is that he never washes his hands that way he can get more patients and he also cheats on his taxes which is illegal and he really should not be doing that. Some doctors are cool, but mine he isn't he is no good my mom should really change our family to a different doctor that way we don't have to deal with the rude doctor we have now. I just don't like it when a doctor does not hear you out or does not really answer your questions. It seems that they don't really care.

OMG, I've got something similar, and have had the same experience with some doctors, a few of which are even specialists. Needless to say, they've hardly been able to help me. I've had to go to a walk-in clinic lately, and guess what happened? I got a more appropriate diagnosis, and better prescription. But the infection's not completely gone yet, so I'm planning to go back to the clinic. I've been thinking about maybe filing complaints with the doctors' organization, because this illness has been going on for far too long, made worse by negligence. Their behavior is unacceptable, and patients can suffer worse things from it. I hope you returned your meds to the pharmacy, and inform your family doctor what happened.

I would not go there again and would report their conduct for sure. It is too bad you had this experience. I am lucky to have a great clinic I go to and the doctors and nurses are very professional and caring. Just a note- in case you weren't aware, L-lysine is a amino acid that strengthens the immune system. You might want to add this to your diet.

Hello zoey, I don't understand why some doctors won't listen to you. I have never come across such doctors, fortunately. But i see no point them ignoring a patient like that. He is actually being rude. Or maybe he knows everything?

We often pay dearly for those office visits to the doctor. The least you could expect was to to be heard. When the doctor tries to cut your off or is not listening to your complaints, it can leave you frustrated and annoyed. it can make you feel you are just on their assembly line and they are waiting for the next patient.

The heck with those people. They are suppose to help us live longer and not die faster! Yes, I really hate it. A lot! Why they even bother to ask if they don't even bother to listen? It doesn't make sense. What if the patient doesn't know how to read and then, if something bad happened to the patient they will just wash their bloody hands so that they can come out clean and innocent. Thank goodness, I don't have much medical issues that until now I did not experience such thing yet, I hope I never will... Keep calm, dear. Better seek another doctor. The one who is responsible and shows genuine care to his/her patient.

Yeah, I know what you mean! It's like they're only after the prescription so that they can make money out of it. They rush you and don't listen to what you say and then make a prescription and then you pay them and so that when the prescription doesn't work you'd come back to them and then they would make another prescription and you would then pay another professional fee and thus they money out of it again. Other than that, most of them are just so rude. They'd even scold you for not coming to them when you first feel the sickness, etc. I mean, they're supposed to heal and make the patients feel better, so instead of being rude they should be friendly and nice to the patients! That's why I don't really trust most doctors and nurses nowadays. There are some though that I know who are really good at their job and would really listen and care for their patients but most of them nowadays are just after the money. That's why I seldom, very seldom, go to the doctor nowadays. If I feel sick I just take enough rest and drink lots and lots of fruit juices and eat lots and lots of veggies and then I would always, always feel better after a day or two. I'm so sorry to hear about how that clinic treated you. You did a good decision of not coming back to them again. Perhaps you should find another clinic or doctor, one that would treat you and the other patients well. Hope you're feeling better now!

O, my goodness. That is just awful. Now you have to go back to get a script that will not kill you. Geesh!

Oh, isn't that dangerous? The moment the doctor or nurse stops listening to the patient, the patient should consider going to another doctor. Like in your case, he didn't even bother knowing what your allergies were! And, especially where the patient has complicated illnesses!
