Cats do they know.

My cat Stumpy - my cat stumpy in a chair she claimed as her own little house.

Do cats know male people from female people...I was told thay male cats prefer female humans and female cats prefer male humans, I found this rather funny but when I think about it, my female cat only ever warmed to males that came to my place and the most affectionate cat I ever had was a male cat...maybe there could be something in it...

I don't think that applies to my cats. I have one female and one male and they are both very attached to me (a female) and my father. My father is the person who feeds them most of the time, so they like him for that. But I spend the most time with them in general. I'm mainly the person who plays with them and since I don't have a job, when everyone else is gone for 8 hours, I'm at home.

My cat was very affectionate with everyone when he was young but when he was a few months old a visiting male neighbour picked him up and when Banjo wanted to get down, he wouldn't let him go. From that time on, Banjo was less friendly...no longer even sitting on my lap to sleep as he did previously. He is becoming smoochy again, 3 years later, and he is most curious about and attentive to males who don't like cats. The last cat I had before Banjo was Cassandra, a real queen, and sometimes very aloof with my partner and I and any visitors we had. She was just so beautiful though and would grace us with her presence. My partner, who didn't have a lot of time for cats, said she was "good value for a cat" and he came to like her a lot. She paid him more attention than she did me. She was very attentive when we came home from work together. I'm not so sure about the theory you put forward from my experience.

I think so I had a cat that I rescued from a male neighbor that abuse him an whenever a male came over the poor cat would go hid under the bed but thank god i have a saint for a hubby who would lay on the floor talking to him calmly letting know it will be fine took along time but before you know it that cat would go to hubby sometimes before me

Now that you mentioned it, it makes me wonder too. Hehe! Although I must say that I think there's no correlation. I have 5 cats and only 2 of them are male. The two adults are all female and both are very very affectionate to me ever since they were still kittens. They always wanna sleep beside me in bed and curl up on my lap when I'm working on my computer. Also, when the other one got pregnant, she was much more needy and affectionate to me. She's always following me around the house and if she doesn't want to sleep on my lap, she would sleep under my chair or anywhere as close to me as possible. One very tiring night she sleeps with me in my bed where my face is. It kind of annoyed me a little because every time I turn, she would get up and then sleep infront of my face while purring so loudly, and then her loud purr would wake me up every time, hehehe! I also helped her gave birth to her 3 kittens because she needed me and called on me when she went into labor :D

This is very interesting, I think you may right. Emotionally I bond better with my female pets, but I always find the males more attractive and charming...

I've had many cats male and female and none of them ever showed a preference for anyone based off of gender. It all depends on how you treat them. If you're the one who opens the can of food more days than not, they're going to love you best.

I do not know if this theory is correct. At least it is not correct in our household. We have two female cats and they do not like me that much and they are not really affectionate to my son either. One of the cats runs away from all of us except for my daughter. She will not have anything to do with the rest of us. The other cat loves my wife and follows her everywhere. I think that cats are just unpredictable and that there is no set system to them.

I believe that cats are very intuitive about the people they come into contact with. i think they definitely know the difference between male and female humans. they just seem to know.

I have heard the male cats are more affectionate than females. My female is a terrible dragon kitty when she is petted or played with, unless SHE has initiated the play. I cannot pick her up, she has bit me on the lip and slapped my face. I am water training her now so she will not continue this behavior. Yet, when she wants attention she will lie in my lap at least 3 times a day demanding I pet her. And gets mad when I have to get up! The males from her litter are quite different and love to play and cuddle. I can pick them up and hug them. They are more gentle than Baby. Sometimes Stinker gives me some trouble, but I am trying to work with him to let me pick him up for at least a minute or two. My friend has 2 female cats, and one especially is a horrid little thing. She actually hissed and bit at me when I came over one day! Just because her hubby shut the bedroom door to keep her out. She took it out on me! lol. My Baby never attacks the guests, just me.

cats are much more clever than we could think. so I do believe that cats can distinguish male from female.

they do know, but I think its more of what they are used to for example, I've never lived with a guy, and my first cat was rather afraid of men, even tho she had gone from the home she was born in to mine with no negative male interaction, but she was shy-ish about strangers and male voices were not something she had gotten used to. Timus, a male cat, loves me a lot, loves the roomie a good bit, but is ALL OVER my guy friend "J" and other men when they come over. Booboo is also all over guys, but he also loves dogs and women, in fact, he's not too fussy...

I think animals have preferences just like humans do. I don't think there are any certain dynamics to this. I believe the love process and feeling is there. A feeling of devotion and caring on the part of the animal. I don't really believe that animals even necessarily distinguish between male or female.
