hearing is just hearing the sound while listening is taking an interest in what is being said or taking an interest in the sound....

Can interaction and comprehension take place in both (listening and hearing situations)?

The only difference really is if your brain is processing the information or not. When you hear something, it pretty much registers as sound. However it goes in one ear, out of the other, and it is sadly likely forgotten a lot of the time. I think that there is a lot more hearing, than listening, because people just have not developed the proper listening skills. Listening on the other hand, we are absorbing the information. We are getting everything that we can of the information, our attention is not wandering in many different directions. Thus it is really getting the most out of the information. We are more likely to remember the information and be able to recite it back to the person, if they had asked. When we are just hearing it, it is going to be quite awkward.
