The benefits of d vitamin for the toughness of our bone fragments are well-known. Perhaps the vitamin d and calcium are the explanation why father and mother make their youngsters have plenty of milk. However, aside from these the vitamin d is extremely beneficial for the wellness and this has a key role inside the protection against some serious conditions. Sunlight contains ultraviolet light. Some wavelengths of this are essential to health because it causes the skin to make vitamin D. Lack of vitamin D causes rickets and can contribute to depression. The higher ultraviolet wavelengths can be dangerous and it is probably for this reason that exposure to sunlight causes most human skin to produce melanin, which absorbs the harmful rays and darkens the skin. Many races who live in countries where there is a lot of sunshine have developed more melanin in their skin genetically, and this is what gives the most obvious difference between races, but all humans (except those with a genetic defect called 'albinism') produce more melanin, and therefore darken, to some extent when they are exposed to sun.
