Is it because of the insane amounts of artificial flavorings and stuff? I believe monosodium glutamate or better known as MSG also adds to the yummy taste of these junk foods. It's just that most of them are bad for you (if not all) so I don't really know why they can taste so good?
If only some vegetables and fruits can taste as good as the junk foods we eat.

because of the tag "unhealthy" "forbidden" "regulated by parents" and "too much media attention", I think not only do the ingredients make junk food taste that good but also because it's human nature to crave for the things that is deemed unfit or unsuitable for us.....don't you think so too??

Totally agreed. Those artificial flavoring taste so great in our tongue to the point that some of us cannot resist them. But bare in mind that these stuffs will absolutely increase the risk of getting many type of sickness. Diabetes, hypertension, cancer, stroke and the list go on..

you are right. its mostly due to msg or any other artificial stuff they put in it.Actually veggies and fruits taste good than junk foods, its just that we or some find junk foods better because that is what we have tasted first. if only we let our children taste veggies first or fruits first they would not crave for junk stuff.

Junkfoods taste so good simply because these are food that do not give you any health benefits. Therefore, no one will buy these things if they taste so bad. There is no reason to buy them. But if they taste good, buying them would actually be profitable for the manufacturers.

Most processed foods have a protein called "wheat" in them. The next time you purchase a particular food, be sure to look at the first ingredient, most of the time it will say, contains, enriched "wheat" flour, or enriched "Durham" flour. "Durham" is another word for "wheat".
All of this time, people have been thinking that "wheat" is a good thing to consume. Well not for all people. People with Coeliac Disease continue to get sick each year because of this protein of "wheat". Not only "wheat" contains this protein though, it is also found in barley, rye and oats as well.
Don't just take my word for it though, read the following article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celiac_disease
I know, because I've been eating a gluten-free diet for the past 5 months and haven't felt this good is a LONG TIME!

My opinion is that the reason that junk food tastes so good is because of the salt that is in them. Or in the case of the sweet foods, it is because of the sugar and high fructose corn syrup that is added to it.
Well, I try not to eat all that much junk food these days because of the fact that I know that it isn't good for me. I am learning some new ways to make things that are healthy taste a lot better to me though.

Well really it depends on our tastes. There is a lot of "junk food" that doesn't taste all that good. But there is a lot of healthy food that really does taste good. I think that there are certain sweet and salty tastes that just make us crave these foods more. Still fruits and vegetables can taste good. For instance, raisins can be eaten just as easily as cookies for me. At least that is how I really do see things. It does depend on your own tastes.

well, you kind of answered your question there already. those artificial flavoring indeed are t5he reason why it feels so good on our tongues. that's why it's not good to eat it too often to not get to used to it and also for your own health's sake.

junk food really does taste way way way too good, we can often go over the top with the amount of junk food that we eat. There is a bigger difference in taste with things like fruit and vegetables, there is also the ridiculous prices that you have to pay for the healthier food. If only healthier food tasted as good as junk food and was also as cheap as junk food. We would then all be a lot happier. We would have a healthy diet aswel as more money in our pockets.

You are right! The good taste is because of the Monosodium Glutamate - which is the major flavor enhancer for all kinds of foods. You would not believe it but in many restaurants too, supposed-to-be healthy foods have MSG added in them. Its chief function is to interfere with our brain processes and trick us into thinking that the food we are eating is really delicious and we end up eating more! That explains why junk food is so addictive - you just cannot stop wanting more.

Simply because it tastes good and appeals much to the mouth where taste buds are. That's it. No more, no less. Notwithstanding the fact that no nutrients are converted into energy once it gets digested in our system. As the term suggest "junk food" it is made of junk with no nutritional benefit at all. Just those artificial flavorings and smell which try to attract people of all ages.

other than the artificial flavorings being so tasty, I think it also has something to do with the nature of people wanting to do things that they are not allowed to do. something rebellious and daring in our nature that we tend to do the very things that we are not suppose to. there are also tasty fruits that are good for our body, but you don't often hear people craving for them.

not so much the MSG, tho that does affect it (salt makes things taste good) but its the sugars and the fats that most people find appealing.
now, why do humans have such a highly developed taste for sugar, fats and salt?
Well, because they helped humans survive in the stone age, when calories were at a much more prime commodity than they are now - and salts, a vital part of regulating the body chemistry, was harder to come by...
Remember, the word "salary" meaning to pay someone comes from the Latin word for salt, which was what they paid their soldiers with...

I think you are right there. MSG (monosodiium glutamate) is a flavour enhancer and I believe it is addictive. I really cannot take this substance because I have had a heart attack and the addiitive makes my heart beat erratically that is not good for me. Even before heart problems, it was something that I avoided like the plague. It is not good for anybody to have in great quantities. _Derek

I think your belief that these junk foods taste good is the reason they taste good to you. I really love all vegetables and fruits, and believe they give me an energy and good feeling unique to raw foods. Junk makes me feel like junk so I'd rather eat tasty healthy foods that make me feel clean, content, and happy.
