I asked her, "I inspired you to do what?"

Yeah, this lady that I have barely seen here at the apartments knocked on my door late the other night. WHen I opened the door I recognized her as someone who lives in this complex. She said that I might think she's weird but that I had "inspired" her. So I asked her, "I inspired you to do what?" She said running. She noticed that I was a runner and I'm sure she's seen me outside pushing my son's wheelchair around. She said she didn't want to be in self pity anymore and I had inspired her to run. She had just run 3 miles! You just never know who may be watching... we can all make a difference to someone!

It is great to be able to have an impact on someone's life. I think the fact that I have done many things that some people only dream of may have had an impact on some people. I often think I don't do enough, but then when I would describe my average day (when I was working two jobs, going to school and volunteering for the Red Cross), I couldn't believe I was doing so much. But to me it was not enough. After recovering from my first round of cancer, I was given a reward by the Red Cross for the service I had done both before and during my cancer treatment. They had talked about what an inspiration I was when they were talking to the board of directors. I was never into running, but maybe if I get over the cancer this time, I might start. Thanks for what you do!

Thanks. I should look into getting involved again. It looks like I won't be working for a while and it would be nice to have something productive to do with my time. Have a great day!

How nice is that. You should feel real good about being able to inspire someone without even trying. That must have made you feel so good. For all that you do for your son it is surely nice to see that you were able to also inspire someone with your running. Instead of running you inspire me to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. Have a great week ahead and God Bless!

In our busy schedule, we might not notice others. You probably took your running seriously and that was noticed by the lady.Your lugging your son's wheelchair and giving a helping hand at home was also noticed by her.If you could despite all your difficulties help out at home and run,it had a profound impact on the lady who probably was caught up in her own small problem.I definitely feel you've inspired someone to look beyond her problem and take control over her life.

You offered some great insights~ Thanks for sharing. I know that what she doesn't see is the struggle.. and the running is my way of coping and having something to excel at...I'm glad she is starting to feel better too!

I wasn't necessarily "inspired" to start running.. I was desparate for a way to be mobile and be able to feel better. But since I've started I've found much inspiration in a lot of stories.

Hi macdingolinger!
Your post made me think of two things...one is your neighbour knocking on your door and acknowledging you as her source of inspiration. That is something! You really must have made an impact on her.
The other is that you are right in that our actions, whether we are aware of it or not, influence others. And not always do we know who we influence. This is one good reason why we should be careful with our actions and behaviors...not for ourselves but for others. Unwittingly, we become models for others...AS YOU DID. That's great!
Hope more people could inspire others with exemplay behavior.

You know it pretty well shocked my socks off! Because I had no idea someone was watching me at all. I mean you know there is a certain population who are watching because of my son's injury and all .. but it's those unsuspected ones that are pretty impressionable on me!

You know, it did really feel pretty good to think that now she can spend the rest of her life feeling better because she'll be more active! I may have her talked into trying a 5k!

I do believe I was a positive inspiration to many people while I was actively trying to lose weight. I talked about weight loss a lot which got other people thinking about it, I gave my advice, which hopefully helped others, and the other members of the gym saw me pushing myself really hard and that inspired them to push a little harder. I am not actively losing weight anymore, I'm just working to maintain my current weight, and lately I haven't been exercising as much as I should do to everything else I'm trying to accomplish, like getting my finances straightened out. I really do need to get to the gym again soon!

I am running more now since I am training for my first half marathon. I am also trying to get back around to healthier eating. And trying to work out my budget too! So we are in some of the same boats!

I loved your story, mac. And just as you inspired your neighbor to run, you might inspire others in your neighborhood or town to make sidewalks better for people on wheelchairs!!!

We get inspired by a lot of things. I get inspired by this image of Morgan Freeman everytime I see it. It's a computer-generated image done by a CG artist. I thought it was a real photo of Morgan Freeman but I was astounded when I found out that it was just a CG image. Everytime I look at this, I get fueled up to do some CG image myself.

Yeah, that would be very cool. I could have told her how much fun I was having and how much better I'm feeling and she would have turned her nose up. But since she was watching on her own- now she's running!

It just shows us that we really never know who may be watching us! WE just don't know how we can help someone. there are people I've known in my past that I wish I could tell them now how much they helped me. Because they really don't even know!

Someone is always watching us, whether we think we are alone or not. As long as it is not during times when we are taking a bath, then it is a different thing. But whatever we are doing, and wherever we are, people will always see us doing something. This is why we have to be very consistent in our actions.

I know! The funny thing is now in the mornings when I run I look around and try to figure out where she was watching from! It's a little unnerving to think that someone could just be watching and I had no idea!

Exactly! That solves another factor in being locked in too. She's been over a couple of times and it's great to have someone to visit with= and even encourage!

I found this out when my son had his wreck. For weeks people filed into the hospital to tell us all he meant to them and how he had influenced their lives...that's why it is so difficult now to watch him lying there silent.

That's for sure! I have been inspired by many people..one was a gentleman who inspired me to write...and so I wrote three books....my friend was a stamper, She has inspired me to make cards and donate hundreds of them to organizations all over....so yes..I may have also inspired someone to do both the things I have done just because I did them! Good for you for being an inspiration to a stranger....

Quite inspiring indeed to hear a wonderful story as yours. keep it up as I am sure many others are also watching. I have not done anything lately but am one who exercises 3 - 5 days a week and have noticed many others in our Ensamble who have been doing so since they have met me.
Although never told that I have inspired them, I still get a great feeling because many of taking better of themselves since they see me in action.

Many of your discussions here on myLot are inspirational, for me at least, so I can totally understand what this lady was talking about. You might be the inspiration for more people, without knowing.
I can relate to several aspects of your life, and running is also my favorite type of exercise... though these days I'm just waiting for the snow to melt.
