type 1 diabetes question

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) when I was in middle school and have been taking insulin for years. Then recently, I was on vacation when my insulin pump malfunctioned. I was off of insulin for four days until I could get it fixed. When I told my doctor, she said that it should be impossible for me to be off of insulin for days without needing to go to ER or something. I asked her what she thought so she gave me a few lab tests and they determined I am still type 1 diabetic. At first I wasn't really worried about the incident until my doctor became shocked about it. My question: if you or someone you know who is type 1 diabetic, have you ever been off insulin for a few days with okay results? Are there any questions I should ask my doctor?

My youngest daughter, who is now 20, was diagnosed at 10, so i have been dealing with diabetes for a while now. It does seem unusual. A day or two and you would have no real serious effects but beyond that, you should have started to feel sick. But there are a lot of factors that could have attributed to your apparent well weathering of the situation (as i am sure you know). Diet, activity, general health at the time, etc all could have helped you along for a few days.

You make some good points. I was more active during those days than I usually am, so that might have helped. Thank you for your response and insight and I hope the best for your daughter and her diabetes. Happy mylotting.
