Understanding Prayer

I have been a Christian all of my life and in church on a regular bases. The one thing that never cease to amaze me is the understanding people have of prayer. we know that prayer is our way of communicating with God but we misunderstand the use of it. Prayer is not something to be use at your leisure. Prayer should be a part of a Christian's daily routine. If you really understand prayer, then you know that you can ask God for anything. I have not any restrictions as to what you can pray for. God only require that you pray from the heart. I have attended both Baptist and Methodist churches and prayers are viewed in the same way; the longer the better. News flash, God does determine the validity or prayers by the amount of words spoken, by the position of the body or where you are. Prayer is more than a collection of words spoken in a rythmatic fashion. Most important is that prayer is a request made to God and God may choose to answer or not in His own time and way.

Prayer don't need to be a long and meaningless. That is why Jesus teach us about the Lord's Prayer. Simple but meaningful. A prayer should start with thanks and praising the GOD. Then we pray for others. Then it is our self. Then we ask God for forgiveness and deliverence. How we want to pray is up to us but the outline is there as the Lord's Prayer.

Yes, God hears a child's first prayer, and saint or sinner call, they will find Him there...

well you pray not only for you but for others. The length of prayer does not matter as long as you ask him what you want from him.Prayer is also praising, glorifying, thanking and lifting the name of god.you can just just pray to praise and glorify him.

Prayer is really indeed very important to us. We must always be reminded that we can do nothing without the One up above. Everything on earth is possible with Him. Let us also be reminded that prayer is not only asking but also giving thanks to God.

I completely agree with what you say. However, I do understand how difficult it is for many of us to find time to pray. We really need to take out the time to spend time with God and just hang out with Him. I bet most of us spend more time watching television than we do in prayer. I know it can be very beneficial, though, and I need to do it more often myself.

god knows what's in your heart, and that's what determine the validity of the prayer,we muslims pray five time in each and we are fighting to concentrate and don't thing of anything not related to god when we are praying, somedays we win others we lose.

One thing that continues to amaze me, very few (even the deeply religious) have a good understanding of prayer. I smile when I see people about to dine in a public place, bowing and mouthing, before they eat. (This is for looks, not God!) Those, in constant contact with God have no need to bow the head, close the eyes, and do lip service. My God is a Loving God. A God who 'loves absolutely.' Absolute Love demands 'Absolutely Nothing' in Return, therefore supplication is superfluous. God knows my every need, and He answers my prayer of thanks, by fulfilling my need, Even Before I could Ask! (I am a Believer, not a Christian!)
