If it really affects their lives, then I wouldn't say they are sick, but yes, addicted. They need help if that is all they do all day long.

If they needed help, I think that they would need to see some kind of mental therapist or psychologist (most likely the psychologist) because it isn't really a physical addiction or problem. It is purely mental.

I have head of gameing addiction before, i am sure that in some cases addiction can occour. but I am not sure aobout this myslf, I have not know anyone who would be addicted to this. I have heard that in China that is a big problem. I read about this in a popualr magizine esp how there are these spical camps that are desgined to cure this problem. some say the problem thre is exhaderated there and the problems is not as bad as the goverment says it is. It was suggested that the camps the additcts were sent to afterd non-existed cures and youg persons were aboused there.

I am tempted to say, Yes! The youngsters who are addicted of playing online games are usually failed in their studies as most of them would play first than studying as they should. I know it is not always the case but I bet 80% out of 100% are sick.

Hallo zhouxi,
I don't think they are sick. I remember when I was a student at the university, I used to play computer games all day long. There were the first years of the PC and we all were so excited about computer games.
I think the teenagers from nowadays are not different. They do what they like the most but they soon will leave the games and discover the real life in all its splendor.

You know when I first got my driving licence, I used to drive the car like I was in a computer game. I was so sure of myself, I had no worries. Then, one day, I wasn't careful enough in a curve and I hit another car. I was driving my dad's car and that was the moment I got back to the reality. Luckily it wasn't a big accident, only the two cars had a few scratches, but for me it was enough to say "stop!" to computer games and to go back to the real life.

But the problem is that some of the students will leave the game and come back the real life. But some of them will not. And even a little of them will addict to the game and act the game in the real life! I have heard that a boy stick others on the road just to imitate the sense in GTA(Grand Theft Auto: Vice City)! That's terrified!

I wouldn't say that these people are sick, because I think that it a strong word to use. Games are definitely addictive and I guess I am luck because I don't particularly like playing games. I don't have a problem with other people doing it though, if that is what they want. But as a therapist, I have seen a few who found it hard to quit the games and felt themselves, that they were wasting so much time. They did manage to stop or modify it, but they were quite able and intelligent people. _Derek

eeheh no i think games in general are created to generate addiction for players surely if a player can live without them or become a kind of mania ...they should stay away from a period..

It is true that play online games is no wrong. But too much makes most of the things become wrong, right? Our parents will not play cars all day and night, they have to work. So as the college students, they have to study because that's why they go to college. Play games is just a way to get relaxed, not a major work they should do. Do you agree with me?

Just as it is possible to become addicted to substances and other things, yes, the internet can become and "addiction" i suppose, though i prefer the term obsession instead. When i think of addictions i think of something that is harmful to a person. I agree that is can be "harmful" if you are using the internet instead of studying or doing your work, but not in a physical way.
I don't neccisarily think these people need to see doctors, but i do think that having someone who cares for them point out the dangers of neglecting all these other things in favor of playing games online. Much of it is just having poor time management skills.

Actually, the online games addiction for some Chinese guys can do harm about their healthy physically. Because some of them playing all the day and have no time for food! They always eat only one time a day. Besides, no physical exercises makes them weak too.

I do not think they are sick. I just think they are as you said, addicted, and if it is not something that is already bothering their work, then i guess it is just fine.

I think a doctor may not nesessary, but a goal is needed for those students. Why they have time playing online?I think it is because they don't have a specific goal in the real life. I have some mates like that, they play DOTA, WOW, SANGUOSHA all the time, why? Because they don't have a goal in the real life, they think 60 percents for class is enough and they don't have a plan for their future. Unlike others, a lot of Chinese students don't have a plan for their lives, so they just have a short sight. However, you surely will find that those who get scholarship, win some tournaments are the student not play games so much.

hai, zhouxi. i also agree with you because i have two friends back in university who are addicted with gaming , and both of them end up drop out from university . it's is very time consuming, u have to have high self discipline and plan your time , i mean don't get too attached to it. i also play games but usually after examination or during semester break. people who addicted will facing problem when they gratuated ( if They managed to ) in communicating with othet people, we call it communication breakdown, they don't know how to express themself. reality is unlike internet , u need to interract with people , need to make real decision.

Any addiction is a sickness. If they dont have the will power to stop themselves and it is preventing them from doing things that they should be doing. If they get to the stage of spending money that should be going on other things or stopping eating properly to be able to play more. I like online games and do get the feeling of 'just one more' before I go and do something else and find time has passed. So I can understand the problem. However, if they are just at the stage of enjoying playing it can be social and stimulating.

I think so. If anybody is addicted to anything, it is not a good sign. It is as well as the bad habits like drinking, gambling and smoking. It is fine that you like to play the online games because it is very interesting. However, if you are addicted to it and spend all of your time on it, this will be so harmful.
I love China

I'm sure that many online games have their positive aspects because they not only entertain people, but also help them in taking decisions and acting fast, but just like any other form of entertainment, they become harmful if we spend all day long playing,so I think computer games addiction is a sickness which may have serious consequences on the physical and mental health of those who are addicted, and they definitely need help and therapy to get rid of their addiction and try to live like normal human beings.

Well there are serious studies that have shown that despite the current prejudices, computer games are not only harmful but also are beneficial, helping to socialize the individual, the growth of intelligence, reflexes and decision-making capacity.
Only, not just sit all day playing computer games online!

I don't really think that the kids who are addicted to playing games are sick. I only think that they need attention from their parents, so they feel that their parents still love and take care of them.
The Internet has changed almost our way of life. Internet has made everything real and reachable. Something we don't know before becomes revealed due to this internet. Internet becomes our hobby and favorite. Before knowing internet, we just read books or played football on the grass. However, after we have recognized internet, we are riveted to the computer screen playing online games.
It's normal in this era.
